Floral Still Life

This is a very sweet floral still life in a distinctive gilt period frame. Oil on canvas, 8 x 10 inches, c. 1880s, unsigned, with a label from Algernon Stubbs Frames, Portland, Maine on the back of the frame.

A lovely wood engraving by Peterboro artist, Nora S. Unwin, measuring 5 1/2 x 4 inches, pencil signed and titled in an edition of 50. Nora Unwin grew up in England and studied art with Leon Underwood, then at the Kingston School of Art and the Royal College of Art before moving to the United States in the 1940s, settling in Wellesley, MA and Peterborough, NH. She was a renowned artist, printmaker and children's book illustrator, and contributed a greatly to the revival of wood engraving in 20th century America.
