Surf, Monhegan
1869-1955, American

A brilliant seascape by the renowned artist, Sears Gallagher. Created c. 1920, sight size is 13 1/4 x 19 1/4 inches and is signed by the artist on the lower right. On the back of the sheet, written in the artist hand, is the title and the artists signature. Known for his etchings and watercolors of historic streets and landmarks in and around Boston, he also had a love of marine settings and created many scenes of coastal Maine, especially Monhegan Island.

1922-2000, American

A remarkable original etching by Leonard Baskin, this image measures 17 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches, published c. 1960s in an edition of 200, not in the Fern & O'Sullivan catalog, pencil signed and numbered, framed. Baskin attended Yale University School of Fine Arts and after a three year stint in the Navy, studied art under the GI Bill, traveling to France and Italy. Baskin began his career as a printmaker in the late 1940s, beginning with simple linocuts, but quickly progressing to dramatic wood engravings, then later etchings and lithographs.

Watercolor, image size 6 x 8 1/2 inches. McAuliffe was active in the late 19th century and produced public works especially in Everett, Mass: Roman Catholic Cathedral, St John's; Parlin Library. His specialties were maritime and religious subjects.
