The Road Home

Oil on panel, 9 x 11 inches, 1874, signed and dated lower right, in a period gilt frame. This is a wonderful tonalist view of a horse drawn hay wagon bound for home in the bleak cold of winter. This painting is by well known Canadian painter Francois B. De Blois. His formal art education includes studies in Europe (c.1870) under Charles-François Daubigny (see AskART) probably in Paris or Auvers sur Oise a suburb to the north of Paris; and under Vincenzo Marinelli (see AskART) in Naples, Italy.

Points of Departure IV  -  Pavane

This beautifully framed etching and engraving by Peter Winslow Milton measures 18 x 28 inches. A very detailed image published in 1999 in an edition of 175, it is pencil signed, titled and numbered on the lower margin. The fourth of four in a suite entitled "Points of Departure", celebrating the end of the millennium, this moody image with its rich tonal scale plays with layers, transparencies and reflections drawn from images from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A graduate of Yale, Peter Milton's work has been exhibited in most major museums in the US and Europe.

A very fine sketch of a stand of maples by the artist, Dexter Dawes. Summering in Marlboro, NH, he is known for his lithographs, drawings and paintings of Mt. Monadnock and surrounding views. This image measures 11 x 7 5/8 inches and is done on a lightweight paper.
