The Snow Drift
1857-1945, British

This original, 1904, soft-ground etching and mezzotint by Sir Frank Short measures 6 x 14 3/8 inches. It is pencil signed on the l.r. with publishers info printed on the bottom, center. Hardie 83 ii/ii. Short was a British master printmaker known for his enormous technical powers coupled with his sense of spontaneity. In this image, man and beast struggle to survive a cold and bleak winters day. Short's use of rich blacks and moody whites and grays suggests the severity of the elements. He designed this image from a watercolor in the Victoria and Albert Museum by the artist Peter De Wint.


Summer Meadow
1872- c.1950, American

"Summer Meadow" by Dexter Dawes measures 12 x 9 inches. Dawes summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs, drawings and paintings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club.
