Surf, Monhegan

A brilliant seascape by the renowned artist, Sears Gallagher. Created c. 1920, sight size is 13 1/4 x 19 1/4 inches and is signed by the artist on the lower right. On the back of the sheet, written in the artist hand, is the title and the artists signature. Known for his etchings and watercolors of historic streets and landmarks in and around Boston, he also had a love of marine settings and created many scenes of coastal Maine, especially Monhegan Island.

This print is from a portfolio of five etchings from an edition of 302 sets etched by William Bicknell, after a painting by Howard Pyle, published in Boston by the Bibliophile Society in 1903.
