Salt Marshes, Ipswich

This simple, atmospheric watercolor by the White Mountain artist, Frank Henry Shapleigh, measures 4 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches and is initialed and dated on the lower right corner. Framed. Shapleigh studied at the Lowell Institute of Drawing and later studied with Emile Lambinet in Europe. Back in the states he had a studio in Boston that he shared with John Appleton Brown and was a member of the Boston Art Club.


1900-1981, Polish American

This original etching by Frederich Taubes measures 10 x 8 1/4 inches and is pencil signed on the l.r. Created in 1939 in an edition of 250 and published by the American Artists Association. Taubes was a well known painter, printmaker, author and lecturer. Born in Poland and educated in Vienna, Taubes eventually became a student at the Bauhaus studying color theory with Johannes Itten. Moving to NYC in 1930 he became a society portraitist with a very wealthy and famous clientele.
