Monadnock Autumn
1872- c.1950, American

A beautiful scene of Mt Monadnock by Marlborough, NH artist Dexter Dawes. Watercolor on paper, sight size 14 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches, c. 1930s, in the original frame. Dawes studied at the Art Students League in New York, and split his time between his native New Jersey and Marlborough, NH. He created many images of the New Hampshire countryside, this view of Mt Monadnock is one of his most vibrant.

This landscape drawing by Dexter Dawes measures 18 1/2 x 24 1/2 inches and is signed in the lower right corner. Dawes was born in Englewood, NJ and went on to study at New York City's Art Student League. He summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs and drawings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club.
