Edge of the Desert
1859-1939, American

A beautifully atmospheric etching of a clearing storm at the edge of the Arizona desert, image size 9 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches, c. 1925, pencil signed and titled. George Elbert Burr studied at the Art Institute of Chicago for a short time, but was otherwise self taught. He began his career as a commercial artist for several publications, including Harper's Weekly and Scribner's magazine. In 1906 Burr moved to Colorado, then later to Arizona, where he became known for his remarkable etchings of the rugged landscape of the American southwest.
