C. 1941. An early study for the well-known lithograph of the same name. The lithograph was an advertisement for Purlator Oil Filters in the 1941 Saturday Evening Post. Charcoal and ink on paper. Signed "Rob" in the lower right. Image size 10 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches on 12 x 12 inch medium weight wove type paper. An incredibly sharp drawing with dramatic chiaroscuro.
