Printed by Delatre in Paris, this Felix Bracquemonde frontispiece measures 14 x 9 3/4 inches, published by Alfred Cadart, Paris. Created in 1865, this bold allegorical etching was created as the frontispiece to a volume of the renowned periodical of the Société des Aqua-Fortistes, a group promoting etching as a fine art. Richly inked on watermarked Aqua-Fortistes laid paper, which was made especially for these publications.
This 1878 etching by the Dutch artist, Johan Barthold Jongkind, measures 5 3/4 x 9 1/8 inches, plate signed and dated. Early proof before letters, D-20, II/IV.
This framed lithograph by Engelmann after Vernet, measures 17 x 10 3/4 inches. It is plate signed and titled on the lower margin. Godefroy Engelmann was born in 1788 in Mühlhausen, France and trained in Switzerland and France at La Rochelle and Bordeaux. He studied painting and sketching in Jean-Baptiste Regnault’s atelier in Paris. In the summer of 1814 he traveled to Munich, Germany to study lithography and is largely credited with bringing lithography to France.
An original etching by Piranesi from his 'Vedute di Roma' series, this image measures 17 7/8 x 27 1/4 inches, state V/V, 1766, cat: Hind-78. From the 'Regia Calcographia' edition c. 1870s, with the blindstamp in the lower right corner. Piranesi was an Italian artist and designer, best known for his series of etchings of Ancient Roman ruins, the "Vedute di Roma". These striking, monumental images of the ancient grandeur of the Roman Empire provided inspiration for many of the artists of the Neoclassical movement in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
This detailed French etching measures 10 x 7 3/4 inches. Created in 1853, it is plate initialed, titled and dated. The inscription on the lower margin reads "La Cabane des bucherone, dans les bois du Buron, pendant l'automne de 1853."
This fine atmospheric etching by Alphone Aufray de Roc 'Bhian was done in 1882 by this French landscape artist. It measures 11 7/8 x 19 inches and is plate signed and dated and pencil signed in the lower right corner. Known for his fine command of atmosphere and mood in his etched lines, Alphone Aufray de Roc 'Bhian exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1864 - 1882.

Daumier used the comic journal of the time, "Le Charivari", published in 1847, as a venue for his satirical views on the corrupt social and political life of the elite. He was referred to as the "Michelangelo of caricature" by his fellow artists creating over 500 paintings and 1000 drawings in his lifetime, framed. (M)
