Etchings

"The Three Sisters" by Sir Francis Seymour Haden measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches, pencil signed, 1868, state VI/V, cat: Schneiderman-119. Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law James Whistler. In addition to being a highly regarded artist he was a successful surgeon, accomplished author and dedicated angler. He was a founder and the first president of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and was knighted in 1894.

Etching measure 4 1/2 x 6 inches on 6 1/8 x 7 1/4 laid-type paper. Printed on August 17th, 1864. State III/III. The etching depicts what is possibly a view from Adpar, Wales on the north side of the Teifi River, looking eastwards and upstream. Catalog Schneiderman 58.

Etching, 8 7/8 x 12 5/8 inches, ed. 90, 1930, pencil signed lower right. This print was inspired by Eby's visit to France and Great Britain in 1924 and '25.

Etching, image size 10 3/4 x 18 3/8 inches, 1885, cat: Rice-71, pencil signed. C. A. Platt was born in New York and studied art at the National Academy of Design, the Art Students League and the Academie Julian. He was a very successful painter and etcher, known for his delicately rendered New England landscapes; and was also a very talented architect. He was close friends with fellow New England etcher Stephen Parrish and was a member of Saint-Gaudens' Cornish Art Colony.

This beautifully etched image by Thomas Moran measures 11 5/8 x 8 inches, is plate signed and dated. Thomas Moran was a leading artist of the American etching revival, and in 1877 was one of the founders of the New York Etching Club. Moran was known for his experimentation in all aspects of the etching process, and his ability to beautifully capture the atmosphere and energy of the American landscape.
