Breaking Up of the Agamemnon, #1

Etching, image size 7 5/8 x 16 1/4 inches, 1870, state IX/XI, cat: Schneiderman-133, pencil signed. According to Schneiderman, the Agamemnon was one of the last wooden hulled warships built in England, shown here moored on the Thames, ready for demolition. Haden was commissioned to by P.G. Hamerton to create an etching of the old ship for the newly founded art magazine 'The Portfolio.'This remarkable image became one Haden's most successful prints.
