Also known as: "Sens, Cathédrale de Saint Ètienne" and "Sens, North Portal." An incredibly detailed drypoint etching with plate toning and a wide tonal range. Signed and dated 1929 in the lower right. Plate signed and dated in the lower right, plate titled in the lower left. Second and final state. Edition of 100. #25 in his French Church series. Catalog: Fletcher 218. C. 1929. Plate measures 15 x 9 inches on 17 1/8 x 11 1/2 inch laid paper. John Taylor Arms was one of the foremost American printmakers of the 20th century, known for his exquisite compositions and exacting details.

The Lobster Fisherman

This is an original etching by American modernist artist John Marin (1870-1953) The title of this work is "The Lobster Fisherman". It was created and printed in 1948. This is a rare pencil signed early proof. The image measures 8 3/4X7 inches. This etching was later reprinted in a large unsigned edition. Nice use of plate tone in the sky and sea.
“From 1899 to 1901, Marin attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. In Philadelphia he studied with Thomas Pollock Anshutz and William Merritt Chase. He also studied at the Art Students League of New York.[
In 1909, Marin held his first one-man exhibition at Alfred Stieglitz's 291 gallery in New York City. He had been introduced to Stieglitz by the photographer Edward Steichen. Marin's association with Stieglitz would last nearly forty years, and Stieglitz's philosophical and financial support would prove essential.[5] From 1909 until his death in 1946, Stieglitz showed Marin's work almost every year in one of his galleries.[6] Marin also participated in the landmark 1913 Armory Show.[3]
Marin spent his first summer in Maine in 1914 and almost immediately the rocky coast there became one of his favorite subjects. Over the rest of his life, Marin became intimately familiar with the many moods of the sea and sky in Maine”

This remarkable etching is one of Eby's finest prints, and is featured on the front cover of the Giardina catalog. The image size is 8 5/8 x 15 5/8 inches, published in an edition of 100 in 1931, cat: Giardina-168, pencil signed "Kerr Eby imp", the 'imp' indicating that Eby printed this impression himself. This image is one of several landscapes Eby made depicting his house in Westport, Connecticut and with it's rich tonal range and vivid contrasts, it is by far one of his most impressive images. This etching features a very richly inked impression on a medium weight watermarked wove type paper.

This is a beautifully colored etching and aquatint by French master of the Belle Epoch, Manuel Robbe (1872-1936) The title of this work is" Claudine" it was created and printed in 1903 and Published by Sagot in Paris. The image measures 12X9 3/4 inches, printed on a medium weight Arches watermarked laid paper. deckeled edges, a very rich impression, excellent condition. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and then the Ecole des Beaux Artes. His technique of hand coloring the images means that no two are exactly alike, a very painterly technique.

This is a fine example of the Paris etchings created by Manuel Robbe in the early quarter of the 20th century. This etching is titled: "Moulin Rouge", created circa 1925.
This is a combination of color aquatint and etching, it was published by L'Estampe Moderne in an edition of 200. The image measures 11 3/8X15 1/2 inches. This etching is hand signed lower right and identified as an artist proof on the lower left. This etching was originally sold and framed by Merrill Chase Galleries in Chicago, the labels and information are attached to the back of the frame. The etching appears to be in flawless condition, rich colors and inking.

Flooded Decks

This incredible image by the British etcher, Arthur Briscoe, measures 8 1/8 x 15 3/8 inches, inked signed and numbered, 73/75, created in 1931. Briscoe studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing, becoming one of the most prominent British marine artists of the 20th century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast. Also crewing on a Polish ship, he sketched every aspect of life on the boat. Most of Briscoe's etchings show sailing ships and the men who sailed them. His beautifully etched images present an invaluable historical record of the workings of the last great commercial vessels.

This beautifully colored etching and aquatint portrait measures 12 x 9 3/4 inches on 24 x 17 3/8 inch arches laid type paper. Print 26 in an edition of 65. C. 1903. Published by Sagot, Paris. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes, becoming a master of the aquatint medium. He developed much of his own aquatint techniques, which enabled him to create his uniquely painterly, richly colored images.
