Sailboat Races off the Coast

This is a fine original watercolor/gouache painting by American Marine painter Frederick Judd Waugh.  This painting created circa 1910 of a Sailboat race off of the rocky coast measures 10X14 inches, signed lower right and nicely housed in  a custom frame.  

Waugh was the son of a well-known Philadelphia portrait painter, Samuel Waugh. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with Thomas Eakins, and at the Académie Julian in Paris with Adolphe-William Bouguereau.

In his later years he lived on Bailey Island, Maine, and in Provincetown, Massachusetts.  Waugh is best known for his seascape paintings on the Northeast Coast ..
