At Bellerive, Lake Geneva

This is a very fine painting of a man and his dog fishing in Lake Geneva, Switzerland. Oil on canvas, 18 x 26 inches, c. 1880, signed in the lower left corner, in an ornate period gilt frame, most likely the original. Another very similar painting by Vuagnat of the same location is in the collection of the Victoria Museum, Melbourne, Australia.

A lovely oil on canvas, c. 1905, measuring 15 x 12 inches, initials on the lower left corner of the painting,"A.T.S". Boston School early 20th century, with Boston canvas label on the back. (M)

The Farmyard

Oil on canvas, 15 x 21 1/2 inches, c. 1880s, attributed to John Appleton Brown, partial monogram lower left corner, in a period frame. John Appleton Brown was born in Newburyport, Ma and studied painting with Albert T. Bricher and Benjamin C. Porter, then traveled to Paris to study with Emile Lambinet. He became known for his Barbizon inspired landscapes of New England and images of apple orchards, earning himself the nickname "Appleblossom Brown." Brown was a member of the Society of American Artists and the National Academy of Design.

The Road Home

Oil on panel, 9 x 11 inches, 1874, signed and dated lower right, in a period gilt frame. This is a wonderful tonalist view of a horse drawn hay wagon bound for home in the bleak cold of winter. This painting is by well known Canadian painter Francois B. De Blois. His formal art education includes studies in Europe under Charles-François Daubigny, probably in Paris or Auvers sur Oise a suburb to the north of Paris; and under Vincenzo Marinelli in Naples, Italy.

A Cool Quiet Rook

This landscape measures 12 5/8 x 9 1/8 inches and is signed on the reverse in pencil as "E. A. King", housed in a period frame. We are attributing this painting to Elizabeth A.(Bessie) King who studied at the Chandler School of Art in Detroit and was a member of the Atlanta Artists Association.

Cattle Crossing

William Preston Phelps was a plein air painter. In 1876, he travelled to Europe and began studying at the Royal Academy of Art in Munich. He later moved to New York and then back to Europe with his friend William Meritt Chase. Framed oil on canvas, 25 x 48 inches. Provenance originally sold by Doll & Richards, label on back. Painting is in original custom frame. Signed in the lower right with the word "munchen," meaning it was painted in Munich. Circa 1879.

Travelers on a Country Road

This is a very fine original 19th Century painting in the style of Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek (1807-1868). Oil on panel, 7 1/4 x 8 7/8 inches, c. 1850, unsigned, in an ornate period gilt frame. Although this painting is unsigned, the style and subject are very reminiscent of the work of Dutch artist Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek, who was known for his delicately painted atmospheric landscapes.

Landscape With Cows

A lovely atmospheric oil on wood panel by the Dutch artist Julius Jacobus van de Sande Bakhuyzen. Image size is 6 3/4 x 10 5/8 inches, framed size is 10 3/4 x 14 1/2 inches, signed l.l., housed in a period qilt frame, c. 1890. Bakhuyzen was born in 1835 in Holland, the son of a well known painter, Hendrik van de Sande Bakhuyzen, who instucted him until he entered the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
