This is a beautiful, intimate etching by the renowned French Barbizon artist Jean Francois Millet (1814-1875). The image size is 6 x 5 1/8 inches, plate size 7 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches, state V of VI, cat: Delteill- 17, plate signed and dated. This etching, based on the painting of the same name, was created by Millet for the 'Gazette des Beaux-Arts' in 1861. This is a very richly inked inked impression, printed on a medium weight laid type paper with ample margins.
7 x 7 inch etching on 8 3/4 x 11 1/2 inch watermarked wove-type paper. Pencil signed in the lower right, plate initialed in the lower left. 1st state, C. 1898. Catalog: Bliss 593.
