The Compressed-air Drill

This wood engraving by Barry Moser is one of 25 from his "Gold Rush" series. Published in 1985 in an edition of 350, it measures 4 x 7 inches and is pencil signed by the artist on the lower margin. This series portrayed gold mining activities from America, Africa and Australia. Moser, from Tennessee, became a graphic artist and printmaker studying under Leonard Baskin and Jack Coughlin.

Angel

This wood engraving by Leonard Baskin measures 2 x 2 inches with a sheet size of 17 x 17 inches. Printed in 1954 as a New Year's greeting, this unsigned proof is #250 in the Fern and O'Sullivan catalogue. Baskin was an important artist in the mid 20th century, known for his evocative wood engravings and lithographs.

Plate initialed in the lower left. Pencil editioned and signed in the lower right. Edition of 75. Plate size 7 3/8 x 6 5/8 on 10 x 9 1/8 inch thin laid type paper. C. 1952. The artist has skillfully captured the variety of contours and textures found in nature and and makes good use of negative space in this lively print.

Original woodblock print. Pencil signed in the lower right and dated 1934. Martin studied with Robert Henri at the ASL. He has exhibited in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1918 (solo); Calif. Art Club, 1919; Brooklyn Society of Min. Painters; Brooklyn Museum, 1933; NY World's Fair, 1939. His woodblock prints are quite rare.
