The Grand Canyon of the Colorado

This wood engraving measures 7 1/4 x 9 3/4 inches on 10 3/4 x 12 inch thin wove type paper. Pencil signed and dated 1931 in the lower right. Pencil titled in the lower left. Artist's proof. An exciting print of patterned contours. Leon Gilmour immigrated to the United States in 1916 and settled in Boston, where he studied at the School of Practical Art. He then worked until he had enough money to go to the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied wood engraving under Paul Landacre.

Hedgehog Cactus

This wood engraving measures 5 1/2 x 4 inches on 11 x 8 inch thin laid type paper. Pencil titled and signed, dated 1937. Numbered in the lower left, 27 in an edition of 100. A charming and unique print. Leon Gilmour immigrated to the United States in 1916 and settled in Boston, where he studied at the School of Practical Art. He then worked until he had enough money to go to the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied wood engraving under Paul Landacre.

Les Smith's Barn

This is an original wood engraving, image size 9 1/2 x 7 3/8 inches, printed on arches wove-type paper size 14 1/2 x 1/8 inches. The print is plate initialed and pencil signed and titled. It was printed and created in 1981, print 101 in an edition of 125.

West Quoddy Light

"West Quoddy Light" by the American artist Stevan Dohanos measures 10 x 8 inches, pencil signed and titled. Dohanos was an Ohio born commercial artist, illustrator and fine artist who first studied at the Cleveland School of Art and went on to illustrate for McCall's, the Saturday Evening Post and Esquire. His paintings and prints have been displayed in the Cleveland Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art and Dartmouth College.

Eggmoggin Reach

This 1940 chiaroscuro wood engraving by the American artist Thomas Nason measures 6 x 10 inches, pencil signed and dated, in an edition of 250, two blocks; black and gray, for Associated American Artists, cat: BPL-300. Known as the "Poet Engraver of New England", Nason was a prolific artist who specialized in incredibly detailed, atmospheric wood engravings of the New England landscape.
