This is an original oil on canvas painting of Old Lyme Connecticut, the river bridge.   This painting is signed lower left corner.  The canvas measures 10X14 inches.  Housed in a period gilt frame.  Born in Minnesota, He moved to Brooklyn and summered in Old Lyme CT.

This is an oil on canvas painting signed Chauncey F Ryder lower left corner. Ryder was a well known post impressionist American painter.   This painting measures 16X14 inches. The work shows  Farm workers returning from the field.  The painting is bright and detailed.  The painting had been recently lined and touched up mainly in the upper right corner.  Born in Danbury Ct. Ryder soon traveled to France to study painting before moving to New York City.Where he made his reputation as an important American painter...  In 1910 Ryder began to travel through New England, the landscape of which provided much of the subject matter for his work. He and his wife bought “a little house and three acres in Wilton, New Hampshire,” and for the rest of their lives, they split their time between New York City in the winter months and New Hampshire in the spring and summer. From their home in Wilton they traveled throughout New England, and continued to do so until old age.

This is a very fine original drypoint and aquatint color etching by French artist Manuel Robbe.  The title is: Les Baigneuses (The Bathers).  THis image wascreated and printed in 1911, published by Cercle de la Librarie in an ediiton of 200.  This one is number 69.  Printed on a medium weight arches wove type paper, The Librrie blind stamp lower left and hand signed in pencil.  The image measures 15 3/8X22 1/4 inches.  The catalog lists this image as Merrill-Chase 102.  Excellent condition with a small repair in the lower border well away from the image area.

This is a fine early etching by British artist Robin Tanner.  The title is: The Gamekeepers Cottage, it was created and printed in  1928 in an edition of 50, this impression is numbered as XXV.  The image measures 6 7/8X8 3/4 inches.  The subject was thought to be  made at Annie Bryant's old cottage in Kington Langley; at Rose Cottage, Corsham, the home of Heather Spackman, his future wife, and at the family house of the Spackmans.  This etching was reprinted in 1982 with some changes made to the design, this is the early original impression, quite rare.  Very fine condition.  Hand signed and dated in pencil.

This is a fine color etching by French artist Edgar Chahine (1874-1947)  The title is: La Promenade created and printed in 1902. Hand signed lower border in pencil. This very large etching was printed in an edition of 50 color impressions and 50 in black and white.  The image was created using soft ground , aquatint and drypoint.  The image measures 18X26 inches.  Published by Edmund Sagot, Paris.  The image is in the Tabanelli catalog as imge number.  Considered to be one of the artist's most important prints. Note: This image is the cover illustration for the Bibliotheque Nationale catalog on Chahine.  This etching is framed and in nice condition, the coloring is subtle.

Oil on Academy Board, 12 x 9 inches, signed and inscribed "M. v. Schmaedel/München" lower right, period frame. The sitter is identified in a copy of a letter dated August 3, 1905, from Seth Mendell to William C. Davenport, President of The Machinists' Bank, Taunton, Massachusetts, in an envelope affixed to the back of the painting. Provenance: Estate of N. David Scotti, Providence, Rhode Island.

This is an original oil on board painting by British artist Sir Hubert Von Herkomer (1849-1914)  This interior view of a woman at the table is signed lower left corner.  The painting measures 13 X 9 1/4 inches.  Housed in a period gilt toned frame with brass plaque. Herkomer was a  Bavarian-born British painter, pioneering film-director, and composer. Though a very successful portrait artist, especially of men, he is mainly remembered for his earlier works that took a realistic approach to the conditions of life of the  London poor.  This is a fine example of his early work, circa 1890.

This is an interesting portrait study, signed Edward Potthast lower left.  This appears to be one of his Beach character studies that he was well known for.  The painting done on an artist board measures 16X14 inches.  Thick brushstrokes, very impressionistic style,  a few minor spots of retouch, and small spots of chipping the result of being pressed against another painting for many years.  This could stand a light cleaning but very presentable as it now appears.

This very large hand colored aquatint and engraving after the painting by J.W. Hill is a panoramic view of New York Harbor.  Created and printed in 1855, this image etched  by Charles Mottram measures an image size of 28 3/4X50 1/2 inches.  This is an early period printing, Published by F. and G. W. Smith 59 Beekman St. New York.. And Colnaghi London...  Printed by McQueen in London.  This image is copyrighted and titled lower border and inscribed as "Proof"..  This is an early state before the addition of engraved lines in the sky.  This impression is in incredible condition, rich color no damage to the sheet, no stains, it was framed in Boston by Richard Nichols, 22 Bromfield Street, Boston.  In the early frame which measures 37X58 inches.  This etching is not available for standard shipping because of its size and weight of the glass.

This is an original engraving by French artist Jean Emile Laboureur.  This engraving was created and printed in 1920.  One of 6 pencil signed impressions prior to publication in L'Architectures in  an edition of 500 unsigned impressions.  The image measures 11 5/8X8 1/8 inches.  Hand signed in pencil lower left.  Very nicely framed with a linen matting.  This is one of his largest images done in his distinctly cubist style.

This is an original oil on mahogany Panel by French artist Georges Lucien Boichard.  This painting is signed and dated 1883 upper right.  The painting measures 13 1/4X9 1/4 inches.  It is housed in a period gilt frame with added inner liner.  Boichard was a well known French Portrait artist.  He lived in Paris and his work was accepted to the Paris Salon in 1880.  The overall frame measures 23X19 inches.

This is an original pencil signed impression of the well known etching, Valkulla by Swedish artist Anders Zorn, 1860-1920.  This impression measures an image area 11 3/4X7 3/4 inches.  Printed on a watermarked, laid type sheet, very wide borders all around, in nice condition, very light even toning to the sheet where the window mat once exposed it to the light, but unobtrusive, this is a very fine and rich impression, printed on a buff toned sheet.   Catalogue Ref. Asplund 251.

This is an original pencil signed mezzotint by British artist Sir Francis Seymour Haden.  The title is: Breaking up of the Agamemnon No. II.  This mezzotint was created in 1880, one of his most popular images, like the earlier etched impression done 10 years earlier in just etched lines.  This image is made up of tone as well as lines in the composition... This subject illustrates  the last of the wooden hulled warships, The Agamemnon,  at the breakers yard .  With the setting sun behind it is truly a romantic view  of the end of an era of tall wooden ships.  The image measures 9 3/4X18 3/8 inches.  Pencil signed lower right border, this is the IX/IX  state.  Printed on a heavy weight wove type paper.  A rich dark impression.  "The Agamemnon in the process of being dismantled is moored to a buoy in the Thames opposite Greenwich...."

This is an impressionistic original color etching and aquatint by French master of the Belle Epoch, Manuel Robbe (French 1872-1936) The title of this work is:
"Le Bouquet de Violettes", it was created and printed in 1903 in the first edition of only 65 signed proofs. A larger edition was published after the signature was added to the plate. This etching is hand signed in pencil lower right. The image measures 17 1/2X11 3/4 inches. A fine impression, previously sold by Merrill Chase galleries, it appears in the Chase catalog as image number 105. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris.
With his hand application of color no two images look exactly the same, a very painterly technique.
