Little Owl

Lithograph from February 1966 of an owl in Greenport, NY. Catalog: Stuckey 304. Edition of 65. Print measures 10 x 15 7/8 inches on 13 1/4 x 20 1/8 inch wove type paper. Pencil signed in the lower right, editioned in the lower left. A fine example of the artist's well known Owl series.

Berkshire Night

C. 1941. Etching and sandpaper ground. Edition of 100. The scene depicted was in the Berkshire Hills in western Massachusetts. Catalog: Giardina 203. Plate measures 10 1/2 x 14 5/8 inches on 13 7/8 x 18 1/4 inch wove type paper. Pencil signed "Kerr Eby imp" in the lower right, indicating that the artist printed it himself. This print has a good use of plate tone in the sky. This image shows his impressive use of highlighting and shadow to show the snow fields at night.

Volcanic Rock

Wood engraving from 1932. Pencil signed and dated in the lower right, pencil titled and numbered 35/130 in the lower left. Plate measures 5 1/2 x 9 inches on 11 x 14 inch wove type paper. A bold and dramatic print with strong contrast. Leon Gilmour immigrated to the United States in 1916 and settled in Boston, where he studied at the School of Practical Art. He then worked until he had enough money to go to the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied wood engraving under Paul Landacre.

Shepherd Crest

Plate measures 7 5/8 x 8 inches on 11 1/4 x 10 1/8 inch wove type paper. Pencil signed and dated 1981 in the lower right, pencil titled and numbered 20/100 in the lower left. This print has a unique composition and incredible linework. Leon Gilmour immigrated to the United States in 1916 and settled in Boston, where he studied at the School of Practical Art. He then worked until he had enough money to go to the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied wood engraving under Paul Landacre.

Verdugo Hills

A dramatic wood engraving with bold contrast. Pencil signed and dated "1944" in the lower right. Pencil titled in the lower left and numbered 10/100. Print measures 5 x 7 3/4 inches on 9 7/8 x 13 inch wove type paper.

Sierra Watercourse

Print measures 6 1/8 x 8 inches on thin wove type 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. Numbered 15 in an edition of 100. Pencil signed and dated "1977" in the lower right, pencil signed in the lower left. This wood engraving is full of motion and enthralling linework.
