This 1928 marine etching by the British printmaker Arthur Briscoe measures 12 1/8 x 8 7/8 inches, hand signed in ink and editioned as 7/75. Briscoe studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing, becoming one of the most prominent British marine artists of the 20th century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast. Also crewing on a Polish ship, he sketched every aspect of life on the boat. Most of Briscoe's etchings show sailing ships and the men who sailed them.

This is a richly inked original etching, image size 4 3/8 x 6 3/8 inches, c. 1920s, edition of 100, pencil signed and titled. This etching comes with a label from the Gage Gallery, Cleveland, Ohio.

This 1930 etching of "Anais", the artist's first wife, measures 8 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches and is pencil signed on the l.r., framed, Fletcher cat: 67, in an edition of 111. Born in England and found to be artistically talented at an early age, he was enrolled in the Royal Academy Schools. A scholarship enabled him to study in France and Italy where the great masters, Botticelli and da Vinci, had a lasting influenced on him. A self-taught etcher who became one of the best portrait etchers in art history being elected into the Royal Society of Painter - Etchers and Engravers in 1921.

This beautiful 1907 etching with drypoint of "Inventory Day" by August-Louis Lepere measures 13 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches, in an edition of about 166, Saunier cat: 344, illlustrated in "Etchers and Etchings", Joseph Pennell, 1929, p. 199. Dated and signed in the plate and pencil signed, l.r., framed. Auguste-Louis Lepere was one of the leading French printmakers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Danish painter and wood engraver, Aksel Jorgensen, created this 12 5/8 x 8 3/8 inch print in the early part of the 19th century. As a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen he integrated the graphic arts curriculum into its fine arts program attracting many well known illustrators of the day.

Elyse Lord lived her entire life in Britain and although her work shows a strong Asian influence, she never actually traveled the continent. Her inspiration instead came from Chinese literature, artwork and her own imagination. Her unique style uses fine drypoint lines and delicate, yet vibrant colors to create images that that have a serene, almost dreamlike quality.
