"Brixham Trawlers" by Arthur Briscoe measures 5 3/8 x 13 7/8 inches, published in 1929 in an edition of 75. Printed in sepia toned ink on Whatman laid paper, it is ink signed and numbered and also plate signed, dated and titled. Briscoe is known as the finest marine etcher of the 20th. century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast. Also crewing on a Polish ship, he sketched every aspect of life on the boat. He studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris.

This is a very rare early proof etching by Jacques Villon titled "La Pedicure". The image size is 9 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches; this print was published in 1907 in an edition of 50, although this is an early state before the published edition. It is pencil signed and notated "Essai" which translates as "test" or "trial". This image is very richly inked with beautiful plate tone and has several of the artist's fingerprints in black ink around the edges of the sheet, all away from the image.

This original woodcut by Lucien Pissarro, after an engraving by his father, Camille Pissarro, measures 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches. Lucien was the eldest son of the Impressionist painter, Camille Pissarro. Lucien specialized in English country landscapes, rural views of woods, cottage gardens and orchards and in the 1880's he became interested in woodcuts and engravings.

This wood engraving by Philip Hagreen measures 3 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches and is plate signed on the lower margin. Hagreen was a gifted wood engraver and illustrator. Founder of the Society of Wood Engravers in the early 20th. century he became a master of the small format creating over 170 bookplates. He studied lettering with Eric Gill and was known for his use of white lines and spaces. A religious man, he withdrew from the artistic life to follow in the Lord's footsteps and in so doing became one of the most under appreciated engravers of the time.

A distinctive original etching and aquatint in colors, image size 19 x 18 inches, 1922, cat: Lorenz- 40, pencil signed. Kasimir studied at the Vienna Academy of Art, although much of his etching technique was self taught and learned through working from nature. He specialized in atmospheric images of architecture, city scenes and landscapes; some bustling with people and automobiles, others quite timeless and serene. Kasimir developed his own technique, which was much more suited to the particular clarity of his compositions.

This drypoint etching of the English landscape painter, Charles March Gere, c. 1927, measures 12 x 10 1/4 inches and is pencil signed on the lower right margin. Francis Dodd was born in Wales and trained at the Glasgow School of Art winning the Haldane Scholarship in 1893 enabling him to travel and study in France, Italy and Spain. During WWI he became a portrait war artist producing more than 30 portraits of senior officers. After the war he gained considerable notoriety for his watercolors as well as his printmaking.

A whimsical image by Hermine David done in drypoint with pochoir color, c. 1929. Pencil signed and numbered on the lower margin. David was known as one of the most outstanding women painters of the early 20th. century. Born and raised in Paris and at the age of 16 was accepted into the Ecole Des Beaux Arts, later going on to study at the Academy Julien. Equally well-known as a miniaturist and printmaker, she went on to have a long successful career and was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1932.
