Etchings

"Marshes" is an atmospheric landscape by Sydney MacKenzie Litten done in an edition of 80. It measures 7 7/8 x 14 3/4 inches and is pencil signed on the lower margin. While attending the Royal College of Art in London, Litten became a pupil of Frank Short, who is credited with the revival of the messotint and aquatint process in England. Litten became well known for his landscapes and their sense of space and his architectual views. Living in London he became the Senior Master at the St. Martins School of Art.

Etching tipped in to the book "Modern American Etchers: Arthur William Heintzelman," foreword and critical notes by John Taylor Arms, 1927, print in great condition, book has some foxing, pencil signed.

This hand colored etching by Elyse Ashe Lord measures 15 3/4 x 16 1/2 inches and is pencil signed and numbered. Elyse Lord was a British artist, although her work shows a strong Asian influence, she never actually traveled the continent. Her inspiration instead came from Chinese literature, artwork and her own imagination. Her unique style uses fine drypoint lines and delicate, yet vibrant colors to create images that that have a serene, almost dreamlike quality.
