Etchings

This 1907 etching and aquatint by Tavik F. Simon measures 12 3/4 x 16 1/2 inches, pencil signed, numbered "81", edition of 150, cat: Novak-69, G. Petit publisher's blindstamp on l.l. T.F.Simon was born in Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as Asia and the U.S. He lived in Paris from 1905-1913, then returned to Prague to teach at the Academy of Fine Arts. Simon was an exceptional painter and printmaker, and is best known for his atmospheric color etchings and aquatints.

This is a fantastic scene of the railroad tracks and surrounding industrial buildings in Oberhausen, Germany by American artist Joseph Pennell. Etching, image size 9 3/8 x 12 1/2 inches, published in 1910 in an edition of 50 impressions, cat: Wuerth- 606, pencil signed "J. Pennell imp", the 'imp' indicating that Pennell printed this impression himself. This etching is printed on an early antique watermarked laid type paper with trimmed margins and a tab signature, in the style of Whistler.

A fine etching in sepia ink by Sir Francis Seymour Haden, one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century. This image measures 6 x 8 7/8 inches, 1892, state III/III, cat: Schneiderman-207, pencil signed. A richly inked impression with very nice plate tone.

Lithograph, image size 12 3/4 x 16 7/16 inches, 1936, cat: Zink-10, pencil signed. According to deMartelly's son, Michael, the figure dozing beneath the tree on the left of the image is deMartelly's friend and fellow artist Thomas Hart Benton.

This drypoint etching by Desboutin measures 8 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches. Created in 1877, this is part of a series of drypoints sketches that the artist did of his close friends.
