Russian Soldier on a Horse

A wonderful painting by the "father of Russian Futurism", David Burliuk. Oil on canvas board, 13 x 13 inches, framed, signed on the lower left. Painted with heavy impasto brushwork. Burliuk studied at the Royal Academy in Munich and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In his most active period he participated in many important avant-garde exhibitions in Kyiv, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Munich. The appearance of the Futurists, as they called themselves, liked to wear gaudy waistcoats, sometimes painted animals on their faces, and wore wooden spoons in their lapels.

Mt St Michel

Sarah Louisa Kilpack, English, 1839-1909, "Mt St Michel ,Jersey". c. 1880, by British artist, Sarah Louisa Kilpack, measuring 13 x 10 inches with sight size 4 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches, signed l.l., framed, oil on paper on board, location written on backing. Born in London in 1839, at an early age Sarah Louisa Kilpack was recognized as a talented pianist and artist, but after a series of misfortunes she had to give up the piano and concentrated exclusively on her painting.

Portrait of Miss Davenport

Oil on Academy Board, 12 x 9 inches, signed and inscribed "M. v. Schmaedel/München" lower right, period frame. The sitter is identified in a copy of a letter dated August 3, 1905, from Seth Mendell to William C. Davenport, President of The Machinists' Bank, Taunton, Massachusetts, in an envelope affixed to the back of the painting. Provenance: Estate of N. David Scotti, Providence, Rhode Island.

Cabin by the Fjord

This is an incredibly detailed, atmospheric Norwegian landscape of a small cabin at the edge of a fjord, the distant hills fading into a soft morning mist. It is painted in oil on panel, 11 x 16 inches, 1871, clearly signed "A Rasmussen 71" in the lower right corner, in an ornate period gilt frame.

Summer Harvest in the Hague

A lovely scene of the Dutch countryside during summer harvest by Berend Adrianus Bongers. The painting size is 14 3/4 x 28 3/4 inches and is housed in a period frame measuring 25 1/2 x 39 inches. Signed by the artist on the lower right with a date of "1906" found on the back of the frame. Bongers was a "Delft" master and painted in the manner of the "Hague School" where views of domestic life and its daily activities were often painted. Educated at the Academy of Art in The Hague, he painted landscapes, portraits, genre scenes and still lifes.

The Old Road

This original landscape by H. Wayland depicts a child walking along a peaceful country lane. An oil on canvas measuring 12 x 23 inches with the artists' signature in the lower right and a brass plaque with the artists name on the lower center. It appears to be housed in its original frame. Title is on the reverse.

Punts at a Quiet Landing

Oil on panel, 11 x 16 inches, cradle backing, signed lower right, in an ornate period gilt frame. A very well regarded artist of the French Realism movement, Emile Lambinet was born in Versailles and studied with Horace Vernet and John Baptiste Camille Corot. Both of these artists greatly influenced Lambinet's mature style of painting, as can be seen in this image, with the exacting details and bright atmosphere of Vernet and the subtle color palette with just a few accents of saturated color of Corot.

Near Aber, North Wales

Oil on canvas, sight size 9 1/4 x 15 1/2 inches, c. 1900, signed l.r., inscription on the back reads "Near Aber, North Wales". This is a beautiful landscape with a shepherd and his sheep set against a majestic mountain background, in an ornate period frame. John Fullwood exhibited at the 1877 Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Show. The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, established in 1821, was highly influential during the Pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Crafts periods.

Returning Home, A Herdsman and His Flock

Watercolor on paper, signed and dated lower right, 1807, 20 x 27 inches in a gold 29 x 25 inch frame. A beautifully detailed watercolor that remains vibrant, even after over 200 years. Ramsay Reinagle first studied under his father, Phillip Reinagle, before going on to study in Italy, Holland, and Rome. Reinagle painted portraits, historical subjects, animals, and landscapes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Society of Painters in Watercolours.
