Watercolor painting of the Pownal Valley in the southwestern corner of Vermont, near Williamstown, Massachusetts. Pencil signed "W. Lester Stevens, N.A." in the lower right. Initialed and titled on the back. The painting measures 22 x 30 inches in a 30 x 37 inch gold frame. William Lester Stevens was born and raised in Rockport, Massachusetts. By the age of eighteen, he had exhibited his first piece at the National Academy of Design and entered the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School. In 1921, together with fifty other artists, he founded the Rockport Art Association.
