Etching from 1896. Catalog: Rief 11, Wohl 11d (von f). An early impression. Pencil signed in the lower right with the word "Worpswede," the artist's colony that he was a part of. Image size measures 5 1/2 x 3 inches, plate measures 6 5/8 x 4 1/4 inches, on laid 11 1/2 x 8 3/4 inch paper. A haunting image with interesting linework.

Première Danseuse (Soloist)

Etching, aquatint, and drypoint. IV/VII state. April 1st, 1908. Catalog: Arwas 363. Seven states. Plate signed in the upper right, pencil signed and numbered in the lower right. Collector's stamp in the lower right. Numbered 89 in an edition of 100. Image size measures 15 3/4 x 11 1/4 inches on 20 1/4 x 14 1/4 inch wove type paper. A dramatic, ethereal print with a wide tonal range, using light to convey that the dancer is about to go onstage.

Coming to Anchor

Etching from 1885 after Harry Chase. Pencil signed by both. Printed on chine-collé. Remarqué of an anchor in the lower left. Catalog: Gilcrease 51, Klackner 43, iii/iii. roulette and sandpaper ground. Some even light toning. A well-inked impression of this rare early American etching. Plate size measures 14 7/8 x 29 3/4 inches in a 20 3/4 x 35 1/2 inch frame.

Little Calais Pier

C. 1865. Original etching with drypoint. D-87. iii/v. Catalog: Schneiderman 88, Drake 87. Plate signed, titled, and dated in the lower left: "Calais, S. Haden, 1865, 3 a.m." Pencil signed in the lower right. Image measures 3 x 6 1/8 inches on 6 3/4 x 9 3/8 inch paper. Collector's seal in lower right. An atmospheric print that makes good use of white space.

Image size measures 14 3/8 x 8 1/2 inches on 18 x 12 inch wove type paper. Plate signed in the lower right of the picture, faint pencil signature in the lower right of paper. Plate titled in the lower right. C. 1893. Etching, aquatint, and drypoint. From his "Les Petits Du Ballet" series. A very stylized print that showcases the stark contrast between the somber adult figure in the doorway and the bright, energetic young dancer entering the room.

Sleeping Cat

Print 43 in an edition of 50. Pencil editioned in the lower left. Unsigned. Plate measures 9 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches on 12 x 9 3/4 inch watermarked wove type paper. An energetic print of a still subject with wild, expressive lines and a rich drypoint burr.

Claudine

This beautifully colored etching and aquatint portrait measures 12 x 9 3/4 inches on 24 x 17 3/8 inch arches laid type paper. Print 26 in an edition of 65. C. 1903. Published by Sagot, Paris. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes, becoming a master of the aquatint medium. He developed much of his own aquatint techniques, which enabled him to create his uniquely painterly, richly colored images.
