An Iris for Lisa

A superb original etching and aquatint in colors, this image measures 17 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches, published in 1970 in an edition of 130 by CFA Graphics, NY, cat: Fern & O'Sullivan- 584, pencil signed and numbered. Baskin was an important artist in the mid 20th century, known for his evocative wood engravings, lithographs, and etchings. In the era of abstract expressionism, Baskin’s work tended toward the representational with a strong classical influence, which is particularly evident in his images of flowers and the natural world.

Drypoint etching measures 10 x 7 1/2 inches on 14 3/4 x 10 inch laid type paper. Pencil signed in the lower right, pencil numbered 12 in an edition of 100 in the lower left. Plate signed in the lower right and dated 1926. This print has good plate toning and use of line to suggest depth and space.
