Etchings

A beautiful original etching and aquatint, image size 11 5/8 x 8 1/4, 1931, pencil signed. William Lionel Wyllie was a well known marine painter and printmaker in early 20th century London. He studied at the Heatherley School of Fine Art, then at the age of 15 began his studies at the Royal Academy. At the age of 18, Wyllie won the Turner Gold Medal for his painting "Dawn After A Storm". He went on to have a long artistic career, specializing in paintings and etchings of the sea and the city of London.

This is a very fine original aquatint of a midwestern farm by Harold M. Hahn, image size 5 7/8 x 12 3/4 inches, pencil signed and titled.

This is a very rich impression of a great sporting etching by Frank Benson. The image size is 9 x 11 inches, published in 1918 in an edition of 150, cat: Ordeman-131, pencil signed and numbered "6". This etching is titled "Marshes at Evening" in the Ordeman catalog, although it is titled in the artist's hand on the lower margin as "Evening in the Marshes". In his catalog of Benson's prints, Ordeman quotes John Taylor Arms, who said of Benson, "[He] has achieved the distinction of founding a school- that of the modern sporting artist.

This is a luminous original etching of a rural watermill at twilight by American artist Charles Mielatz. The image size is 19 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches, published in 1886 by Fishel, Adler & Schwartz, remarque in the lower margin, pencil signed. Mielatz was born in Germany but came to the United States as a young boy, studying at the Chicago School of Design, although much of his etching technique was self taught.

Drypoint etching, image size 4 1/8 x 5 1/2 inches, 1913, ed. of 35, pencil signed. From "10 Radierte Tierstudien von Max Slevogt."

This fine original etching by John Winkler measures 4 x 6 1/4 inches and is pencil signed and numbered. Winkler attended the San Francisco Art Institute and became enamored with the art of etching. Known for his simplistic line, he was often compared to Whistler. He became good friends with fellow etchers, John Taylor Arms as well as Arthur Heintzelman. His works are found in major museums throughout the US and Europe.
