20th Century European Prints

This is an etching by British artist Robert S. Austin titled: High Bridge pencil signed lower border.  This etching measures 4 3/8X5 1/8 inches, printed on medium weight laid type paper.  Created and printed in 1928 in an edition of 75.  This image was illustrated in the Salaman book, Modern Masters of Etching.  Dodgson 77.

This is an original drypoint etching by British artist Sir Henry Rushbury.  The title On the Stour, printed in 1919 in an edition of 50 impressions.  This etching is hand signed in pencil lower border.  The image measures 9 3/4X12 5/8 inches.  Very fine condition, framed.  The River Stour /ˈstaʊər/ is a river in Kent, England that flows into the North Sea at Pegwell Bay.

This is an original hand colored engraving by French artist Mily Possoz.  The title is: Jeunes Filies a la fenetre.  Created and printed in 1930, editioned as 26/75, hand signed in pencil.  the image measures 9 1/8X8 1/2 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper with publishers blindstamp/Paris lower right border

This is a fine drypoint etching by British artist David Muirhead Bone.  The title is: The Jetty, Gorleston, created and printed in 1934 in an edition of 99.  The image measures 6 7/8X10 15/16 inches.  "Gorleston-on-Sea is located on the Norfolk Coast near Lowestoft."  This etching is hand signed in pencil and is nicely framed.

This is an original line engraving by French artist Jean A. Joseph Morin-Jean.  Created and printed circa 1920, this pencil signed impression has an image size of 9 5/8X7 7/8.  The edition is numbered as 8/10.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.

This is a fine etching with drypoint by British artist D.Y. Cameron.  The subject here is Notre Dame Dinant, created and printed in 1907, this is the second state of three.  Hand signed in pencil,  first sold through Arthur Harlow in New York.  The image measures 13 1/2X6 3/4 inches.  The sheet is laid down on a support sheet, borders are 1/4 inches wide all around.

This is a fine line engraving by French artist Jean Emile  Laboureur.  The title of this work is La Photographe, it was created and printed in 1923.  This impression is numbered 40/55.  The image measures 4 3/4X3 3/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.  Hand signed in pencil lower left border.   Though Laboureur was initially inspired by Lautrec and the Primitivism of Paul Gaugin, he is considered to be the first printmaker to be strongly influenced Cubism. By the end of World War I, the artist had gained wide acclaim as a book designer and illustrator. The artist died on June 16, 1943 in Pénestin, France

This is a fine original etchng by British artist George Marples (1869-1939)  This image is titled: Shephard with Flock Crossing the Bridge, created and printed circa 1934.  Printed on a laid type sheet, this image measures 5X7 inches, Printed on a sheet that measures 8X10 inches.

This is an original pencil signed and titled etching by Dutch artist Jules De Bruycker.  The title is: Patershol, (A Gent Quarter)  created and printed in 1906.  The image measures 12 7/8X6 7/8 inches.  The catalog notation is: le Roy, 10.  Printed on a medium weight laid type sheet.

This is a rare original drypoint etching by British artist William Strang.  The subject is a portrait of the Sculptor George Frampton.  Created and printed in 1907.  The image measures 15 7/8X10 3/4 inches. Hand signed in pencil printed by his son David Strang.  Printed on a medium weight laid type sheet.

This is an original pencil signed wood engraving by British artist and illustrator John Nash. The title is Marrow and other Autumn Fruit and Flowers, created and printed in 1935. This image created for the H.E. Bates book, Flowers and Faces has an image size of 7X5 inches.  Printed on a soft wove type sheet.  The sheet size is: 10X8 inches.  Nash was a member of the Society of Wood Engravers in Britian.

This is a very richly inked original etching, image size 8 5/8 x 11 1/8 inches, 1939, published by the Print Club, Cleveland, Ohio, plate signed and dated, pencil signed. Edmund Blampied was a very successful artist and illustrator in early 20th century Britain. He illustrated many books and magazines, but is best known for his remarkable skills as a printmaker. He was an important figure in the 'British Etching Revival' of the early 20th century, and was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1920.

Etching, image size 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches, 1931, pencil signed. Chahine studied at the Academia Di Belle Arti in Venice and then at the Academy Julien in Paris. He was a very well respected artist in his time, winning many awards and honors for his work. However his prints and paintings are hard to find, many of them were destroyed in a fire at his studio in 1926 or in a later flood in 1942.

This drypoint etching of the English landscape painter, Charles March Gere, c. 1927, measures 12 x 10 1/4 inches and is pencil signed on the lower right margin. Francis Dodd was born in Wales and trained at the Glasgow School of Art winning the Haldane Scholarship in 1893 enabling him to travel and study in France, Italy and Spain. During WWI he became a portrait war artist producing more than 30 portraits of senior officers. After the war he gained considerable notoriety for his watercolors as well as his printmaking.
