This lovely image of a young girl by the English printmaker Mortimer Menpes measures 5 3/4 x 3 1/2 inches and is pencil signed with an "imp" after his name indicating he was the printer. Etching and drypoint, dated 1882 in the plate. Menpes attended the School of Art in London in 1878 and started exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1880. He became a major figure in the etching revival, producing more than seven hundred different etchings and drypoints, which he usually printed himself.

Etching is 9 3/8 x 11 7/8 inches on 11 3/8 x 14 5/8 inch wove-type paper, printed by the artist. The work is pencil signed, c. 1910. The Church of St. Sophia, or "Sophienkirche", was the only gothic church in the whole city of Dresden. It was severely damaged in the Dresden bombing in 1945, and later destroyed completely in 1962 by the German Democratic Republic.
Menpes attended the School of Art in London in 1878 and started exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1880. He became a major figure in the etching revival, producing more than seven hundred different etchings and drypoints, which he usually printed himself. Menpes was taught etching by James McNeill Whistler and they lived together for some time.

This is an oriignal etching, pencil signed by British artist Mortimer Menpes (1855-1938)  The title is: Under the Bridge, Japan, Nagasaki.  This etching was created and printed in 1896 in an edition of 50 impressions.  This has the "imp" after the artist's name which means that he printed this impression himself.  The image measures 4X11 7/8 inches.  It appears in the Morgan catalog as image number 165 I/III.  Printed on a light weight laid type paper.
