This is an early 20th century landscape painting, oil on canvas titled: "The Oak", it was created circa 1920-30's.  It is signed lower left corner with the initials A. F. and also initialed and titled on the back of the canvas.  The painting itself measures 18X24 inches.  A fine impressionistic view of a woodland scene with a figure in the background.  Very good condition, the artist is a mystery.  This might possibly be the work of Alexis J. Fournier...

This is an original oil on Canvas painting of a Grand Child''s Birthday present.  The painting is signed lower right corner but not easy to make out.  It looks like H. J. ..........?  The canvas measures 17X14 inches and came in a fine period gilt frame.  There is one repaired tear in the lower center of the canvas and some cracking to the paint.  Over all a very fine painting highly detailed.  Guaranteed to be   a mid to late 19th century work.  Most likely British or American origins...

This is a fine original pencil signed etching by American artist John Sloan.  The title is: Fifth Avenue Critics, created and printed in  1905 in an edition of 100.  This image measures 5X7 inches, printed on a medium weight laid type sheet with partial watermark.  Pencil signed, titled and numbered 100 proofs.  This impression was given to Mrs Paul Bartlett of Gloucester in 1916.  This image appears in the Sloan catalog as image number 128.  Very fine condition.

This is an impressionistic original color etching and aquatint by French master of the Belle Epoch, Manuel Robbe (French 1872-1936) The title of this work is:
"Le Bouquet de Violettes", it was created and printed in 1903 in the first edition of only 65 signed proofs. A larger edition was published after the signature was added to the plate. This etching is hand signed in pencil lower right. The image measures 17 1/2X11 3/4 inches. A fine impression, previously sold by Merrill Chase galleries, it appears in the Chase catalog as image number 105. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris.
With his hand application of color no two images look exactly the same, a very painterly technique.

This is an original pencil signed mezzotint by British artist Sir Francis Seymour Haden.  The title is: Breaking up of the Agamemnon No. II.  This mezzotint was created in 1880, one of his most popular images, like the earlier etched impression done 10 years earlier in just etched lines.  This image is made up of tone as well as lines in the composition... This subject illustrates  the last of the wooden hulled warships, The Agamemnon,  at the breakers yard .  With the setting sun behind it is truly a romantic view  of the end of an era of tall wooden ships.  The image measures 9 3/4X18 3/8 inches.  Pencil signed lower right border, this is the IX/IX  state.  Printed on a heavy weight wove type paper.  A rich dark impression.  "The Agamemnon in the process of being dismantled is moored to a buoy in the Thames opposite Greenwich...."

This is a very rare original lithograph by New Orleans artist Caroline Wogan Durieux.  This impression is signed, titled and numbered 5/8 in pencil in the lower border.  Also inscribed in the border: "printed by the artist".  The image measures 14 1/2X10 inches.  
Caroline Wogan Durieux  is best known for her satirical, often pessimistic depictions of people and events. She was born in New Orleans in 1896, and showed early proficiency, studying art with brothers William and Ellsworth Woodward at Newcomb College, spent several years in Cuba. In Mexico by 1926, she befriended Diego Rivera , the muralist and social activist, and his wife, Frieda Kahlo . Durieux shared Rivera's leftist and egalitarian views.

This is an original aquatint etching by French artist Manuel Robbe.  The title is; Fleur d'Automne, created and printed in 1903 in an edition of 65, this one is numbered as 55/65  lower left border and hand signed in pencil lower right border.  The image measures 19 1/2X14 7/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  This image appears in the Merrill Chase catalog as image number 46.  Fine rich impression.

This is a very cool lithograph on zinc, image size 12 5/8 x 17 7/8 inches, 1919-1920, from a very small edition of 27 or fewer impressions, cat: Czestochowski-134, printed by Bolton Brown, pencil signed. Provenance: The Cleveland Museum of Art. Davies was a truly remarkable artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries known for his dreamlike etchings and lithographs. In his catalog raisonne of Davies work, Czestochowski writes "In a time of social, political, scientific and artistic upheaval, Davies hewed to an unwavering inner vision, one of classically graceful figures in an eternal dance with nature." This image is a beautiful homage to the ancient Greeks, which Davies portrays in his distinctive style that is at once quite classical and quite modern.

This is an original drypoint etching by French artist Paul Cesar Helleu.  It is identified as Elegante au Chapeau, created and printed C. 1900 in a small edition.  The image measures 15 3/4X11 1/8 inches. Twice  signed in pencil lower left border and lower left within the platemark.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper with the Helleu watermark. Richly inked burr still evident.

This is one of the finest color block prints by French artist Paul Jacoulet.  The title: Retour De La Jungle, Tondano: Celebes, This image was created and printed in 1948, Pencil signed, with the Sparrow seal.  This image measures 15 3/4X12 inches.  The artist used a fine coral powder to give dimension to the compositional colors.  He also experimented with Gofun, an egg white derivative that produced a rich opaque effect.  This image appears in the Jacoulet catalog as image number 90.  Nicely framed, this wood block is in beautiful condition.

This is an original oil on canvas painting by French artist Pierre-Marie Beyle.  This work created circa 1880 measures 13X7 inches, no apparent signature visible.  Some cracking to the paint but very presentable as it now appears in a late 19th century gilt frame.  There is little doubt that this is the work of Beyle in style, subject and technique.

One of the finest portrait etchings ever  created by British artist Gerald Brockhurst.  "Henry Rushbury", created and printed in 1930.  Rushbury, like Brockhurst studied at the Birmingham School of Art and the two later shared an apartment in London.  Rushbury was an accomplished etcher as well...  This etching is very richly printed, the subtle tonal range is incredible in person, our scan doesn't .do this image justice.  Absolutely one of the finest portraits .  This etching measures 10X7 3/8 inches, pencil signed and titled by the artist in the lower border, printed in an edition of 111.  Very fine condition.

Etching, image size 6 3/8 X 14 9/16 inches, printed in 1942 by Charles White in an edition of 150, 2nd state proof, numbered "II", cat: Fletcher-370, pencil signed and dated. This atmospheric etching is a great example of the delicate lines and precise detail for which Arms was known. This image won several awards in the early 1940s; the Mrs. Henry F Noyes Memorial Prize for best print at the 27th Annual Exhibition of the Society of American Etchers, New York, N.Y. 1943; the First Prize in Black and White Section at the 12th Annual Exhibition of the Irvington Art and Museum Association, Irvington, N. J. 1945; and the First Prize in Black and White at the Annual Art Exhibition of the Bridgeport Art League, Bridgeport, CT. 1945.
