19th Century European Prints

This is an original etching by French artist Alphonese Legros.  The title is: "Souvenir du Lac de Trasimene".  The image measures 5 3/4X6 3/8 inches.  Printed on a Laid paper with A.O.L. watermark.  Hand signed in pencil lower right.  Bliss 674, state ii/ii..

This is an original etching by Ludovic N Lepic.  The title is Les Patineurs, created and printed in 1869, hand signed in blue crayon lower left.  The image measures 5 1/2X10 7/8 inches.   Printed on a chine colet adhered to a thicker sheet of wove type paper.  Some toning on the outer edges of the borders and on the back of the sheet.

This is an original etching by French artist Theodule A. Ribot.  The tile is: Le Dejeuner des Cuisiniers, it was created and printed circa 1865.  Translated it reads: (The Cooks' Lunch, Culinary Scene # 5)  "is the fifth scene from a set of original etchings portraying the life in the kitchen's of  a Parisian restaurant.  Published by Cadart, Paris.  The image measures 8 1/4X11 1/4 inches.  Plate signed.

This is an original etching by Barbizon artist Charles Emile Jacque.  The title is: Le Chemin de Halage, (The Towing Path) created and printed in 1864.  This image is plate signed by the artist Jacque and also signed by the printer Sarazin, printed in Paris.   The image measures 6X4 7/8 inches.  Printed on a chine colle adhered to a thicker sheet of wove type paper.
"Charles Jacque 'Charles Emile Jacque': During the 1840's a most important movement began in French art. A number of painters began settling in the tiny village of Barbizon and dedicated their art to portrayals of nature and rustic life. Given that the mainstream of traditional French art was still mired in the genres of classical and historical paintings this was indeed a revolutionary step. Barbizon artists gained their inspiration from both the great landscape etchings and paintings of Rembrandt and other Dutch 17th century masters and from the contemporary landscape art of such British artists as Constable and Turner. In its turn, Barbizon etchings and paintings led the way to the beginnings of French Impressionism in the following generation.

Many of the leading artists associated with the Barbizon school were also fine etchers. Within this category one should mention such names as Corot, Millet and Daubigny. Charles Emile Jacque, however, dedicated his career to the art of etching and became the most active Barbizon artist in this field. He is thus considered a major precursor to the French etching revival of the 1860's."

This is a very large original etching pencil signed Charles Jacques and also signed A Gilborn..? This is most likely an etching done by Jacques after a painting by another french artist , circa 1880.  The image measures 25 3/4X20 1/2 inches.  A duck remarque lower left.  Printed on a wove type sheet.  Very good condition.

This 1845 etching by the French artist Charles Jacque measures 5 1/8 x 7 1/2 inches, plate signed, state VI/VIII, previously sold by AAA in New York. Label included.

This is an original etching by Scottish artist David Young Cameron.  This etching is titled: Perth Bridge, it was created and printed in 1889.  This impression is signed and titled  in the plate lower right.  The image measures 6 1/4X9 3/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.  The image appears in the RInder catalog as image number 28.  Perth Bridge is  in the city of Perth, Scotland, it spans the River Tay, this is plate signed only.

This is a delicately colored image of a young mother and her son in front of a stained glass window in a very classically styled composition. Etching and aquatint, image size 8 x 5 5/8 inches, c. 1898, state VIII/VIII, cat: Arwas- 153, plate signed in the upper left corner of the image.

Etching with remarque, image size 10 1/5 x 15 1/4 inches, c. 1870, plate signed l.l. "Appian", indecipherable pencil signature l.r. indicates that this is a copy of an etching by Appian.

This is a rare pencil signed bookplate design by Evert Van muyden.  It has numerous views of men working in a printing shop.  Pencil signed lower right.  The image measures 8 1/2X6 1/2 inches.  Collectors seals and annotations on the back.  This image was created and printed circa 1890's.
