20th Century American Prints

This is a fine original etching by American artist Joseph Pennell.  The subject is, The Ferry House, The Cortlandt Steet Ferry from the Jersey City Side.  THis etching is hand signed in pencil, the image measures 12X10 inches, printed on an antique laid type sheet.  This was sold originally by Schwartz Galleries in New York.  This impressive etching is nicely framed with collectors annotations on the back,

This is an original etching and aquatint by American artist Kerr Eby.  The subject is Eby's home which he named Driftway, in Westport Connecticut.  This etching is hand signed in pencil and has an image size of 8 3/8X15 3/8 inches.  Printed in an edition of 100 in 1939.  This image appears in the Giardina catalog as image number 196.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.

This is a fine industrial etching by American artist   Otto Kuhler.   "Monster & Midgets". 1928. The image measures 9 3/8 x 12 7/8. inches.  Etching. Signed in pencil. Edition: 75. Excellent condition. Although best known for his industrial Designs, Otto Kuhler  is well regarded as a fine artist and draftsman. Born in Germany, Kuhler was the sole heir to his family's successful steel business, Kuhler Forges. After WWI however, the business and his family's fortune were in ruins. After living briefly in Dusseldorf, and partly due to the advice of friend Joseph Pennell, he took up etching and emigrated to the States in 1923. Otto Kuhler's etchings of begrimed industry sprang from the same optimistic response to technology that led to his colorful streamlined designs for the Milwaukee, Lehigh and other railroads in the 1930's. "This merging of industry and art proved so successful that after years of submitting designs, a locomotive based on Kuhler's designs was built. The engine, Hiawatha, rolled out of the Schenectady, New York yard in May, 1935. It was the first streamlined steam locomotive to be built from scratch in America. This signaled the start of the next phase of his career- as a successful industrial designer."

This is an original wood block print by American artist Werner Drewes.  It is a self portrait of the artist created and printed in 1971.  It is editioned as 22/40.  The image measures 18 1/2X11 1/2 inches.  Pencil signed by the artist, printed on a medium weight japan type paper.

This is an original lithograph created by Japanese American artist Yasuo Kuniyoshi.  The title is Burlesque Queen, it was created and printed in 1936 for the American Artists School in New York City.  It was created in an edition of 100.  The image measures 11 5/8X9 1/2 inches.  This image is plate signed as issued, it is inscribed in pencil lower left "100 prints".  The sheet has the AAS blind stamp in the lower border and with a partial ink stamp on the back of the sheet from the American Artists School.

This is a fine original drypoint etching by American artist Frank Benson.  The title is: Ducks at Play, created and printed in  1923 in an edition of 150 proofs.  This pencil signed etching has an image area of 10 7/8X13 3/4 iinches.  Printed on a Japanese Vellum, this image appears in the Ordeman catalog as image number 217.  One of his largest etchings.

This is another fine hand signed drypoint etching by American artist Walter Tittle.  It is titled: St. Bartholomews, New York, created and printed circa 1930.  The image measures 10X13 3/4 inches.  Nicely framed with archaval materials.  A wonderfully rich impression of this rare etching.

This is an original lithograph by American artist Kyra Markham.  The title is: In the Wings, created and printed in 1936, a back stage view of the performers on stage.  The image measures 13 1/2X10 inches, pencil signed,dated and titled in the lower border.  A rare image by this well known New York artist.

This is an original pencil signed lithograph by American artist Reginald Marsh.  The title is: Girl Walking, created and printed in 1945, sold through Associated American Artists in New York.  The image measures 10 1/2X7 3/4 inches.  Printed on a wove type sheet.  This image appears in the Sasowsky catalog as image number 28.

This is a fine original pencil signed etching by American artist Joseph Pennell.  The subject is: Athens from the Tomb of Philopotes,  it was created and printed in 1913, printed by the artist with his "imp" after his name in the lower border.   The image measures 10 3/8X18 1/2 inches.  This image appears in the Wuerth catalog as image number 656 and was printed in an edition of 40.  This etching was originally sold by Frederick Keppel in New York.  Original label included.

This is a fine original lithograph by American artist Don Freeman.  The title is: First Night Ovation,  created and printed in 1933 in an edition of 25.  Both pencil signed and titled in the lower border, this image measures 11 5/8X13 7/8 inches.  "In this first night audience, Heywood Broun turns to greet a friend seated behind him, Otto Kahn in top hat is seen at the far right, and above him, critic Percy Hammond rushes to meet a deadline"  This image appears in the Freeman catalog as image number 69.

This is an artists proof etching by American artist John Taylor Arms.  The title is Limoges, part of his French Church Series created and printed in 1932.  This etching is hand signed in pencil with an image size of 10 1/16X13 5/8.  This image is inscribed lower right: "Beautiful impression, pulled by D.S. and J.T.A."  Inscribed also as artist proof number III.  Printed on a J. Whatman watermarked laid type paper.  A beautiful impression.

Etching by Jacques Reich after the painting by Giovanni Boldini, image size 20 5/8 x 11 1/2 inches, 1916, pencil signed. Whistler's signature is etched below the image, Boldini's in the lower left corner of the image.
