20th Century American Prints

This is an original hand signed wood block print by Jamaican artist Albert Huie.  The title of this work is Road Mending, created and printed circa mid 1940's.  The image is signed and titled lower border, the image measures 7 3/4X5 7/8 inches, Good condition. 

Albert Huie (1920-2010) was a seminal figure in the formation and development of a national Jamaican artistic identity, overcoming the hurdles of a colonial-based system of race and class distinctions to become the first native-born Jamaican artist to attain international renown and respect. Working primarily in the areas of landscape, portraiture, and figurative art, he established a multiple award-winning career that spanned seven decades and earned him the title of “the Father of Jamaican Painting.” 

This is an original pencil signed lithograph by American artist Joseph Pennell.  This image is one of his Panama Canal Series that he created in 1912.  The image is titled: The Walls of Miraflores Lock, 1912.  The image measures 18 1/2X24 3/4 inches, on a Fabiano watermarked laid type paper which measures 20 1/2X25 1/2 inches.

This is an original pencil signed lithograph by American artist Joseph Pennell.  One of a series that he created at the Panama Canal construction in 1912.  The image measures 16 3/4X22 inches.  The title is : Early Morning, Miraflores, Panama.  Printed on a Fabiano watermarked laid type sheet which measures 20 1/2X25 1/2 inches.  

This is a fine birds eye view of New York City in 1908.  The title is: The West Street Building from the Singer Building,   It was created and printed in 1908.  The image is pencil signed and titled in the artists hand in the lower border.  The image measures 11X8 3/8 inches.  The image appears in the Wuerth catalog as image number 491.

This is a scarce etching by American artist Joseph Pennell.  The title is Madison Avenue Fraternity House.  It was created and printed in 1923 in an edition of only 30.  The image measures 12 1/4X9 1/4 inches printed on an antique laid type paper.  The etching appears in the Wuerth catalog as image number 818...

This is an original pencil signed lithograph by American artist Joseph Pennell, as part of his Panama Canal Series, this image is titled: Official Ancon-Administration Buildings, created and printed in 1912.  The inmage measures 22X 16 1/2 inches, on a Fabiano watermarked laid type paper which has a sheet size of 25 1/2X20 1/2 inches.

This is an original lithograph by American artist from the Ash Can school of painters, Raphael Soyer.  This image created and printed in 1943 is hand signed and titled: "Farewell"  It is a large image measuring  16X12 1/4 inches. The image appears in the Cole catalog as image number 61.  Printed in an edition of 100.  Very good condition apart from some spots of thinning to the sheet in the outside border area well away from the image.

This is an original woodblock print by American artist Isac Friedlander. it is titled: "Vanquished" it was created and printed in 1938, it is editioned as 1/4 impressions.
The image measures 10X12 inches, printed on a light weight laid type paper. It is hand signed,titled and editioned in pencil in the lower margin. Isac Friedlander (1890-1968) was born in Latvia. In 1912 he went to Italy where he met and worked with Russian artist Maxim Gorky. During this period he also received his only art training, studying etching, drawing and relief printing at the Academy of Rome. In 1937, he emigrated to New York where he worked full time as an artist until his death. He is best known for his woodcuts and etchings, and many museums have works by the artist, including the Smithsonian, Bibliotheque Nationale, and the Brooklyn Museum.

This is a fine original etching by American artist John Taylor Arms.  This etching is titled The Red Mill, also called The Red Barn, Southport.  The image measures 11 1/8X7 1/4 inches.  This pencil signed impression done in etching and aquatint was published in 1922 in a first edition of 25.  Beautiful tonal range and fine composition with extensive reflections in the water.  This etching was later printed with some color in the barn and sky.  Nicely framed with French matting.

This is a fine original lithograph by American artist Gifford Beal.  The title is: Tight-Rope Performer/Aerial  Acrobat, created and printed circa 1930.  The image measures 13 1/4X10 5/8 inches.  This lithograph is pencil signed, inscribed 100 imp.  One of his series of Circus images that Beal created when the circus came to New York City.  This lithograph came to us from the Beal family.

This is an original pencil signed lithograph by American artist Joseph Pennell.  It is from his Panama Canal series, the title of this image is: In the Cut at Las Cascadas, Panama Canal.  It was created and printed in 1912.  The image measures 17 1/2X 22 1/2 inches on a sheet of Fabiano laid type paper which measures 20 1/2X25 1/2 inches.

This is an original etching by American artist Gottlob L. Briem (1899-1972)) The title of this work is :Wall Street, N.Y.C." It was created and printed in 1930 in an edition of 100. The image mesres 13 15/16X8 15/16 inches. It is hand signed in pencil lower right.

This is a very fine drypoint etching by American Sporting artist Frank Benson.  This image is titled: Turnstones, created and printed in 1928 in an edition of 150.  The image measures 7 7/8X11 7/8 inches.  Last sold by Vose Galleries in Boston, the label is on the back of the frame.  A very rich burr in the drypoint, a beautiful image, Benson at his best.  This image appears in the Ordeman catalog as number 283,
