20th Century American Prints

This is a fine pencil signed and titled lithograph by Polish born American artist Maxim B Gottlieb.  The title is: Polish Landscape created c.1940's.  The image measures 9 7/8X13 3/8 inches.  This lithograph is in the collection of the Library of Congress, indicated as an edition of 20.

This is an original pencil signed etching by American artist Caroline Armington.  It is titled lower right: Sailboats at Stockholm, 1928.  This is 23/100 impressions .  The image measures 9 1/4X12 inches, Printed on a medium weight laid type paper, fine use of plate tone in the Sea and Sky.  Caroline was married to fellow artist Frank Armington ..

This etching by Melville Wire measures 8 1/8 x 11 7/8 inches and is pencil signed and titled. AAA label included with artist provenance.

This 1906 etching by the American artist Joseph Pennell measures 12 x 5 inches, pencil signed, printed by the artist, 1906, cat: Worth-433, edition of probably 50.
Pennell was an important American etcher, lithographer and illustrator. Good friends with James McNeill Whistler, he and his wife co-authored his biography. Pennell was known for his continued experimentation with technique and style, producing cityscapes, landscapes and marine scenes.

This is an original etching by American artist Isac Friedlander The title of this work is "Little Trees". circa 1940 this etching has an image size of
10 1/2X7 inches, printed on a medium weight wove type paper. This etching is hand signed, titled and editioned as 29/50. Friedlander (1890-1968) was born in Latvia. In 1912 he went to Italy where he met and worked with Russian artist Maxim Gorky. During this period he also received his only art training, studying etching, drawing and relief printing at the Academy of Rome. In 1937, he emigrated to New York where he worked full time as an artist until his death. He is best known for his woodcuts and etchings, and many museums have works by the artist, including the Smithsonian, Bibliotheque Nationale, and the Brooklyn Museum.

Etching with drypoint, image size 5 7/8 x 8 7/8 inches, c. 1930s, pencil signed. Philip Kappel was born in Hartford, CT, and educated at the Pratt Institute in New York. He was employed as an artist for several shipping companies and much of his work documents these ships and their sailors. At age 26, Kappel was the youngest person ever admitted to "Who's Who in America."

This is an original monoprint by American artist David W Humphrey (1872-1950)  This scene of Arcadia is an unsigned proof.  It came to us with a matching pencil sketch of the same subject.  The artist is identified on the back of the sheet.  The image measures 9 7/8X7 7/8 inches.  "David W. Humphrey was active/lived in Connecticut, New York, Wisconsin, Illinois.  David Humphrey is known for figure-genre, illustrations, graphics, crafts."

This is an original lithograph by American artist Adolf Dehn.  It is titled: "Minnesota Farm", it was created and printed in 1935 in an edition of 100.  The image measures 9 3/4X13 3/8 inches.  The image is hand signed in pencil lower border.

This is a large drypoint etching by American artist Elias M. Grossman.  It is hand signed and titled: Joinville (outskirts of Paris)  The image measures 11 1/2X14 1/2 inches. Signed and dated in the image lower right, 1931.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.

Winzenreid (1892-1971)  The title of this work is "Clouds Over Lake", circa 1940, this lithograph has an image size of 10X12 3/4 inches.  It is hand signed, titled and editioned in pencil in the lower border.  This impression is 10/40.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper, very fine condition.
