This is a fine line engraving by French artist Jean Emile Laboureur.  The title of this work is Le Retour de la Peche.  Created and printed circa 1920's this image measures 4 X 3/3/4 inches.  Hand signed and numbered in pencil in the lower border. 27/55.    Though Laboureur was initially inspired by Lautrec and the Primitivism of Paul Gaugin, he is considered to be the first printmaker to be strongly influenced Cubism. By the end of World War I, the artist had gained wide acclaim as a book designer and illustrator. The artist died on June 16, 1943 in Pénestin, France.

This fine impressionistic mezzotint was created by British artist Percival Gaskell.  The title is Dawn, it was created and printed in 1924.  The image measures 8X9 7/8 inches, printed with a warm toned ink on a heavy weight wove type paper.  Hand signed lower border in pencil by the artist.  Gaskell was born at Shipley in Yorkshire and educated in Cambridge. He studied art at the Royal College of Art, in Paris, and in Italy.

This is an original etching by British artist Edward Bouverie Hoyton (1900-1988)  The title is: St. Hubert's Chapel, it was created and printed circa 1930's.  The image measures 7 7/16X11 1/8 inches,   Pencil signed lower right border, printed on a medium weight buff toned laid type paper.  A very rich impression.  Edward Bouverie- Hoyton was in the same etching class as Paul Drury and Graham Sutherland. They remained friends throughout their lives. His early work came under the spell of Samuel Palmer but he was also influenced by the etchings of artists such as John Crome and John Sell Cotman of the Norwich School.

Plate signed and dated 1920. Signed "Lumsden imp" indicating that the artist printed it himself. A skillfully done portrait with a rich drypoint burr. Plate measures 5 7/8 inches x 8 1/4 inches on 9 1/4 x 11 1/8 inch thin watermarked laid type paper. The subject is the Reverend Nathaniel Royds, the father-in-law of the artist.

This is a fine drypoint etching by French artist Eugene Delatre.  The title is petit perron  (small porch)  It was created and printed circa 1910, pencil signed and numbered as 30/40.  The image measures 8 1/2X 9 1/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  A very nice impression with extensive use of plate tone throughout the composition.

Etching is 9 3/8 x 11 7/8 inches on 11 3/8 x 14 5/8 inch wove-type paper, printed by the artist. The work is pencil signed, c. 1910. The Church of St. Sophia, or "Sophienkirche", was the only gothic church in the whole city of Dresden. It was severely damaged in the Dresden bombing in 1945, and later destroyed completely in 1962 by the German Democratic Republic.
Menpes attended the School of Art in London in 1878 and started exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1880. He became a major figure in the etching revival, producing more than seven hundred different etchings and drypoints, which he usually printed himself. Menpes was taught etching by James McNeill Whistler and they lived together for some time.

A delicately rendered original etching with drypoint, plate size 5 3/8 x 7 3/8 inches, published in 1923, cat: Dickins-78, pencil signed. Walcot was born in Russia, the son of a British father and Russian mother. His family traveled extensively throughout Europe as well as South America, and Walcot was educated in Paris and Russia, graduating with a degree in architecture from the Imperial Academy of the Arts in Moscow. He worked as an architect briefly in Russia before moving to England in 1906. He became well known for his etchings which portray an impressive knowledge of architectural details along with a distinctive impressionistic influence in the atmosphere and immediacy of the images. This scene of York Minster is a great example of this sense of light and atmosphere, the delicate details of the cathedral contrasting with the quickly rendered people in the foreground.
