This 1927 etching by the American artist, Gabrielle De Vaux Clements measures 11 x 17 1/8 inches, pencil signed, hard ground with drypoint, on medium weight paper. Clements studied with Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and etching with Stephen Parrish before moving to Baltimore where she lived and taught for over 15 years. It was there that the Bendann Galleries commissioned her to portray the city in a series of nine etchings. This one of the North Avenue Bridge completed in 1927 shows the inner workings of the city and the changes brought about by the American Industrial Revolution.
