The image measures 6 3/4X5 7/8 inches. Isac Friedlander (1890-1968) was born in Latvia. In 1912 he went to Italy where he met and worked with Russian artist Maxim Gorky. During this period he also received his only art training, studying etching, drawing and relief printing at the Academy of Rome. In 1937, he emigrated to New York where he worked full time as an artist until his death. He is best known for his woodcuts and etchings, and many museums have works by the artist, including the Smithsonian, Bibliotheque Nationale, and the Brooklyn Museum.

This is a rare original lithograph by American artist and lithographer William Morris Hunt. The image size is 7 1/2 x 5 5/8 inches, published in a small edition in 1857, after the painting by Hunt which is now in the collection of the MFA Boston. William Morris Hunt was one of the earliest American lithographers. He was also a painter and studied the French Barbizon style in Europe with Millet, a close friend. Hunt is widely credited with bringing the Barbizon style of painting back to the U.S.
