20th Century European Prints

This is a fine original color aquatint etching by French artist Manuel Robbe.  This image of a sleeping nude in the landscape is hand signed in pencil lower right and numbered as 33 lower left border.  The image measures 11 1/4X15 1/2 inches.  Printed on a medium weight Arches laid paper.

This is a finely detailed line engraving by British artist Robert Sargen Austin.  The title is: "The Pack Bridge, Aylestone, Leicestershire".  The image measures 4 13/16X4 7/16 inches.  It was created and printed in 1926 and appears in the Dodgson catalog as image number 65.  It was printed in an edition of 60.  

This is an original etching by French artist Auguste Lepere.  The title of this work is: "Quartiers de pecheurs", it was created and printed in 1915.  This etching is pencil signed and has the edition number of: 38/50.  The image measures 7 1/4X7 3/4 inches.  Printed on a thin laid type paper.

Printed on laid-type paper. Pencil signed with an "imp" after his name indicating he was the printer. Inscription in the lower left says "Rose." Image is 11 2/8 x 12 3/8 inches on 11 3/4 x 14 1/2 paper. c. 1910.

This is an original engraving by French artist Jean-Emile Laboureur (1877-1943)  The title is: La Promenade Sur Le Port, it was created and printed 1933 and was used as the presentation print for the Print Club of Cleveland.  In an edition of 235.  This engraving is hand signed in pencil lower left border, printed on a medium weight wove type paper.

This lovely atmospheric image by William Wyllie measures 4 7/8 x 12 7/8 inches, pencil signed on the l.l. and created c. 1920. This is a view of Greenich from the Isle of Dogs with a view of the Royal Navel Academy on the left with the domes of the Royal Observatory high in the background. Wyllie was a well known marine painter and printmaker, studying at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and then at the at the Royal Academy. At the age of 18, Wyllie won the Turner Gold Medal for his painting "Dawn After A Storm". He went on to have a long artistic career, specializing in paintings and etchings of the sea and the city of London. In this etching, Wyllie uses remarkably delicate lines and subtle tones to create an atmospheric image in this busy harbor scene.

This is an original pencil signed etching with drypoint by British artist William Strang.  The subject is: a Portrait of Sir Charles Holroyd, No 2,  it was created and printed in 1909.  Holroyd was a fellow artist and printmaker.  The image measures 17 1/2X11 5/8 inches. Printed on a thin laid type sheet.  A beautiful impression.

This is an original hand colored etching by British artist Elyse Ashe Lord.  The title is: K'o Ssu, Swallows and Prunus,it was created and printed circa . 1925.  This etching is hand signed and titled in the lower border in sepia ink.  71/75.  The image measures 12 1/2X11 inches.  Printed on a wove type sheet.  

This is an original etching with aquatint by French artist Manuel Robbe.  The title is: Dans les Rochers,  created and printed in 1910.  The image measures 17 7/8X23 inches, printed on a medium weight laid type sheet with crown watermark.  Blind stamped lower left border.  A fine impressionistic view of an older couple watching the Fishing fleet set sail at sunrise.

This drypoint etching of the English landscape painter, Charles March Gere, c. 1927, measures 12 x 10 1/4 inches and is pencil signed on the lower right margin. Francis Dodd was born in Wales and trained at the Glasgow School of Art winning the Haldane Scholarship in 1893 enabling him to travel and study in France, Italy and Spain. During WWI he became a portrait war artist producing more than 30 portraits of senior officers. After the war he gained considerable notoriety for his watercolors as well as his printmaking.

This is a drypoint etching by French artist Louis Legrand.  The title is : English Bar, from his Album Les Bars, published by Pellet in Paris in 1909.  This impression is from the first state of three with the Remarque of a Woman in Profile.  The image measures 9 3/4X5 5/8 inches.  Hand signed in pencil, printed on a Japon type paper.  Numbered as 1/30.

Etching and drypoint from 1922. Pencil signed in the lower right. One of a series of five etchings from his series "The Arteries of Great Britain." Published by Dickins in 1922, in an edition of 425. Catalog: Dickins 73. Image measures 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches on 9 1/2 x 12 1/4 inch wove type paper. The scene is of the open Swing Bridge, from a vantage point of the High Level Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne. An atmospheric print with selectively wiped plate tone. Walcot was born in Russia, the son of a British father and Russian mother.

This is a fine color woodcut by German artist Martin Erich Phillipp.  This artist known for his color woodblock prints printed in the 1920's in the Arts and Crafts style.  This image of Two Red Parrots is hand signed and titled as " Rote Arar I"..The image measures 9 1/8X6 1/2 inches.  Very richly colored, it looks like a monoprint.  The work of this artist is quite scarce in the USA.  Printed on a handmade Japan type sheet.
