Etching, 10 x 7 1/4 in, pencil signed

This is an original etching by Barbizon artist Charles Emile Jacque.  The title is: Le Chemin de Halage, (The Towing Path) created and printed in 1864.  This image is plate signed by the artist Jacque and also signed by the printer Sarazin, printed in Paris.   The image measures 6X4 7/8 inches.  Printed on a chine colle adhered to a thicker sheet of wove type paper.
"Charles Jacque 'Charles Emile Jacque': During the 1840's a most important movement began in French art. A number of painters began settling in the tiny village of Barbizon and dedicated their art to portrayals of nature and rustic life. Given that the mainstream of traditional French art was still mired in the genres of classical and historical paintings this was indeed a revolutionary step. Barbizon artists gained their inspiration from both the great landscape etchings and paintings of Rembrandt and other Dutch 17th century masters and from the contemporary landscape art of such British artists as Constable and Turner. In its turn, Barbizon etchings and paintings led the way to the beginnings of French Impressionism in the following generation.

Many of the leading artists associated with the Barbizon school were also fine etchers. Within this category one should mention such names as Corot, Millet and Daubigny. Charles Emile Jacque, however, dedicated his career to the art of etching and became the most active Barbizon artist in this field. He is thus considered a major precursor to the French etching revival of the 1860's."

This is an original etching by French artist Alphonse Legros (1837-1911)  The image measures 4 1/2X6 3/8 inches.  Pencil signed by the artist, printed on a wove type paper.  This image appears in the Bliss catalog as image number 243.

This is an original pencil signed etching by well known animal artist Morgan Dennis. The title of this work is: "Stick together Fellers", it was created and printed in 1930.

This is an original drypoint etching by French artist Adolphe Beaufrere (1876-1960)  The title of this etching is "Cottages by the Stream", it was created and printed circa 1930.  It is editioned as 19/60.  The image measures 8 1/2X8 3/4 inches.  Hand signed in pencil in the lower margin.

This is an original pencil signed and titled wood block print by Donald Witherstine.  The title is: Messengers of the Sea, created circa  1940 in an edition of 100.  The image measures 9 3/4X9 5/8 inches.

This is an original early etching by American artist Stephen Parrish.  The title is: "Calling the Geese", it was created and printed in 1880.  A rare image, not published by Parrish.  The image measures 4 3/8X12 1/4 inches.  This impression is plate signed only.  Minimum border at the top of the image.  This image appears in the Schneider catalog as image number 7.

This is an original etching by American artist John Bostwick (1860-1947)  The title of this work is: "A Brilliant Sunset".  It was created and printed in 1882.  The image measures 5 1/4X11 1/4 inches.  The setting of this scene is: "The Large building of the Clark Insulate Electric Wire Company, Bristol, Pa"  the work is unsigned as published. 

This is an original  woodblock print by German artist Grete Schmedes, This view of a Summer cottage by the Brook is identified as Breslau Berlin.  The image measures 8 3/4X8 inches, hand signed in pencil lower right border, Printed on a light weight Japan type sheet, very fine condition.

This is a fine drypoint etching by German artist Ernest Oppler.  The title Pierrot and Tanzerin  aka. Love and Ballet two figures on stage created and printed circa 1920 This etching is pencil signed and numbered 49/100.  The image measures 5 3/4X7 7/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.  Oppler is best known for his images of Ballet and the theater.
