This is a fine line engraving by French artist Jean Emile Laboureur. The title of this work is Le Retour de la Peche. Created and printed circa 1920's this image measures 4 X 3/3/4 inches. Hand signed and numbered in pencil in the lower border. 27/55. Though Laboureur was initially inspired by Lautrec and the Primitivism of Paul Gaugin, he is considered to be the first printmaker to be strongly influenced Cubism. By the end of World War I, the artist had gained wide acclaim as a book designer and illustrator. The artist died on June 16, 1943 in Pénestin, France.

Gaskell was born at Shipley in Yorkshire and educated in Cambridge. He studied art at the Royal College of Art, in Paris, and in Italy.

Edward Bouverie- Hoyton was in the same etching class as Paul Drury and Graham Sutherland. They remained friends throughout their lives. His early work came under the spell of Samuel Palmer but he was also influenced by the etchings of artists such as John Crome and John Sell Cotman of the Norwich School.
