20th Century American Prints

A beautiful sun drenched scene by Walter MacEwen, etching, image size 10 x 5 7/8 inches, c. 1910, printed by Delatre, pencil signed. Born in Chicago, MacEwen traveled to Europe to study art, first in Munich with Frank Duveneck, then in Paris with Corman and Robert-Fleury. He stayed in Europe for many years with studios in both Paris and Holland, where he was also a founding member of the Egmond Artist Colony. Primarily a painter, MacEwen was known for his impressionistic portraits and genre scenes which were quite well received in both Europe and America. His etchings, which are quite scarce, are developed in a very painterly style, reflecting the delicate use of light and shadow of his paintings.

This is an original pencil signed and titled lithograph by American artist Lawrence Beall Smith.  This image is titled lower left, The Skaters, created and printed in 1939, published by Associated American Artists in an edition of 186.  The image measures 11 1/8X8 1/2 inches.  Nicely framed with archival materials.

This is a rare original lithograph by Chicago artist Helen Noel.  The image is hand signed and titled in pencil: Rhythm, created mid 1940's.  The image measures 11X11 3/4 inches.  Numbered as 6/10.  Some minor condition issues, unobtrusive.  A fine view of Dancers in a music hall.

This is a fine original wood engraving by American artist Leo Meissner.  The title is: Days End, it is pencil signed, titled and numbered as 8/40.  The image measures 8X10 3/4 inches.  Created and printed in 1936.  Most likely the coast of Maine.

This is an original pencil signed and numbered etching by American Modernist artist Leonard Baskin.  This image is titled Birdman, one of a series he did on the metamorphosis of a Man from a bird.  This image was created and printed in 1957,  The plate measures 18X12 inches, printed on a heavy weight wove type sheet.  It is numbered as 225/300.

This transfer lithograph by Arthur Davies measures 16 5/8 x 11 9/16 inches in an edition of 25 or less. Created in 1921, it is signed by the artist on the lower margin. Printed on medium weight paper, it is #189 in the Czestochowski catalog. Davies was known for his unique decorative style, often visualized in a fantasy world of female figures. One of the most respected and successful American artists, he was a member of the "Eight" and was the principal organizer of the 1913 Armory Show.

This is an original drypoint etching by well known American artist and Architect Samuel Chamberlain.  The title is: Valley of the Var,  The location is Entrevaux, France.  This image was created and printed in 1940, it is pencil signed and editioned as: 5/100.  Printed with a warm toned ink, the image measures 10 7/8X13 3/16 inches.  This image appears in the Chamberlain catalog as image number 132.

This is an original wood engraving by American artist Herbert Waters.The title is: West Virginia Spring, created and printed Circa  1960.  The image measures 9 7/8X6 1/2 inches.  Hand signed, titled and numbered in pencil, 31/75.  A beautiful impression in great condition.

This is a very rare early trial proof etching by Joseph Pennell, one of the foremost American etchers of the early 20th century. The plate size is 11 x 8 5/8 inches; the image itself measures 10 x 8 1/4 inches. It was created in 1906 and is pencil signed by both Pennell and Goulding, the printer. It is notated 'trial proof' in the lower right corner, the later published state of this image is #411 in the Wuerth catalog. As is typical of Pennell's prints, the margins are small, but adequate for proper presentation. This etching comes with original label from Frederick Keppel & Co, New York.

This is an original etching by American artist Gifford Beal.  The title is Afterglow, created and printed in 1940 in an edition of 100.  This etching is pencil signed and numbered.  The image measures 9X11 3/4 inches.  This image came to us directly from the artist's family.
