This is an original woodblock print by Austrian artist Franz Kaiser. This image measures 5X5 inches, hand signed in pencil and stamped on the back with the artists name and "Wien" His home in Austria
Lithograph, image size 8 x 10 inches, plate signed "h.d." l.l.(in reverse), 1847. Daumier used the comic journal of the time, "Le Charivari", published in 1847, as a venue for his satirical views on the corrupt social and political life of the elite. He was referred to as the "Michelangelo of caricature" by his fellow artists creating over 500 paintings and 1000 drawings in his lifetime.
This linoleum engraving by Leonard Baskin measures 4 x 2 1/2 inches and is printed on a sheet size of 17 1/2 x 17 inches. An unsigned proof done in 1951 for "A Little Book of Natural History", published by The Gehenna Press in Worcester, MA., and is listed as #101 in the Fern and O'Sullivan catalogue. After serving in the Navy during WWII, Baskin began his career as a printmaker in the late 1940s, beginning with simple linocuts, but quickly progressing to dramatic wood engravings, then later etchings and lithographs. Known for his graphic images created by the simple interplay of black on white, combined with his dramatic use of line, Baskin remains one of America's greatest printmakers.
