This drypoint of the French painter, Purvis de Chavannes, measures 7 5/8 x 5 inches. Created in 1895, it depicts de Chavannes sitting in his robe against the background of one of his works.

For example, through the use of satire he portrayed the king as a money eating "Gargantua" which landed him in jail for six months. He was referred to as the "Michelangelo of caricature" by his fellow artists creating over 500 paintings and 1000 drawings in his lifetime.
