20th Century European Prints

A drypoint etching from 1920. Catalog: B-223. Pencil signed in the lower right. Plate 7 3/4 x 12 3/4 inches on 11 1/2 x 16 inch watermarked laid paper. A richly inked impression with a rich drypoint burr. Soper was a master at showing Horses at work in the old British farm lands.

This is an original pencil signed study of the Crucifixion .  This etching was created by German artist Friedrich Ritschel (1901-) The image measures 15 3/4X15 1/2 inches.  It appears to be early 20th century, printed on a medium weight wove type paper.  Very richly inked.

This is an original etching by German artist Otto Quante (1875-1947)  The title is: " Am Englischer Garten, (English Garden in Munich)"  It was created and printed circa 1925.  It is editioned as 3 of 12 impressions, pencil signed and titled by the artist.  The image measures 7 3/4X10 3/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.

This is an original drypoint etching by British artist Sir Henry Rushbury.  The title is: Roman Bridge, Verona.  This etching was created and printed in 1929 in an edition of 80.  The image measures 7 3/8X13 3/8 inches.  It is hand signed in pencil and has the number of the edition as XVII.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.

This is an original etching by German artist Paul Winkler-Leers.  This image was created for the Asten Paper Company.  Showing them unloading the Asten freighter.  The image measures 11 3/4X15 3/4 inches.  Hand signed in pencil lower right, with the Asten Company Blindstamp in the lower border.

This is a fine pencil signed mezzotint by British artist Percival Gaskell.  This image titled: "The Lake" was created and printed in 1910.  The image measures 8 1/2X11 1/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.  A fine impressionistic view of the Deer in Moon light.  A fine and rich impression.

This is a fine Ex Libris book plate illustration by British artist Stanley Anderson.  This engraving  of fishing equipment was done for H.C. Drayton, pencil signed by Anderson and with  a stag circular blindstamp in the lower right corner of the border.  The image measures 4 1/4X3 1/4 inches.

This is a drypoint etching by British artist Percival Gaskell.  The title is Ravaged Hillside, created circa 1920, this view of hillside with cut trees from an extensive logging operation.  The image measures 8X11 1/8 inches.  Hand signed by the artist in pencil.  Printed with a warm toned ink on  a medium weight wove type paper.

This is an original pencil signed etching by British artist Mabel C. Robinson (1875-1953)  The title of this work is: A Marsh Road, created and printed circa 1910, the image measures 5 1/4X8 1/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.

This is an original etching and drypoint by British artist Francis Dodd.  The title is: Cathedral of St. Bavo, Haarlem.  This etching was created and printed circa 1920, hand signed in pencil lower right, a rich impression which measures 9X10 3/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper, some creases on the bottom border, not into the image area.

This is an original etching by French artist Alphonse Legros (1837-1911)  The title of this work is: Les Laveuses (Washer Women),  also known as Le Lavoir (Washhouse)   It was created and printed in 1904.  Pencil signed lower right, also with the Bliss collectors stamp.  The image measures 6 1/2X 4 3/4 inches.  It appears in the Bliss catalog as image number 602.  It was printed in an edition of 82.  Printed on a medium weight laid type sheet.

This is a very fine original pencil signed wood engraving by British artist George Soper.  This winter scene of a Farmer feeding the cattle has an image size of 5X7 1/2 inches.  Nicely framed with archival materials.

This is an original drypoint etching by German artist Ernest Oppler.  The subject is: Along the Riva degli Schiavoni, Venice,  created and printed C.1920.  This impression is hand signed in pencil and numbered 42/100.  The image measures 6 1/4X9 1/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type sheet.

This is a pencil signed etching by German artist Ernest Oppler.  The title is: Coquette, created and printed in 1921, numbered 33/100.  The image measures 5 3/4X8 1/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet. Oppler did not seek to portray “dance” as a concept, but rather the distinct personality of each dancer while on stage. Because of this, he became very familiar with some of the greatest ballet stars of the era such as Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinsky, and Tamara Karsavina.  His obsession with capturing dancers in motion became so great that he even developed a lighted pen in order to sketch in darkened theaters during performances.

This scene in London of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, otherwise known as the Brompton Oratory. The domed building in the background is the Royal College of Arts, where Anderson was studying at the time. Edition of 58. A finely detailed and well inked print with a rich drypoint burr.
