This is an original oil on panel painting by Dublin/Boston artist Margarita Pumpelly Smyth (1873-1959) Known as Daisy, she studied under Abbott Thayer in Dublin N.H.
This painting was shown at the Worcester Art Museum in the 1902 Summer Exhibit , the label is on the back along with a brass plaque from a Boston framer. Included in the show that year was the work of Frank Benson ,Edmund Tarbell, Mary Cassatt, Edward Redfield and Childe Hassam. The painting measures 30X22 inches, it is signed lower left but only is visible with a direct light, a black light shows it well. The painting is titled "Charlotte", probably painted in 1901-02. Daisy was an American Bahá'í, painter and roommates with Juliet Hutchings Thompson .. Although Married Daisy was quite independent. She and Thompson traveled together extensively by them selves. While her works are quite rare this one does show some of the early influences of Thayer and of course many of the later French artists of this time period.

29X35 inches. It came to us in what appears to be the original frame with the Walter Klinkhoff Gallery,Montreal, label on the back. The title of this work is:
"Winter Lac Ouimet, Mont Tremblant", it is a view of the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. Albert Cloutier was a painter, commercial artist and muralist who grew up in Montreal. He also lived in Ottawa and during his time as a war artist was posted in several locations in eastern Canada. He was a member of the R.C.A. and also the CSGA. He moved to Saint-Hilaire, Quebec in 1959 where he lived the rest of his life. His mediums were primarily oils and graphics. His subjects were landscapes, commercial art and (during the war)the military. His style was expressionist and greatly influenced by the Group of Seven.
He studied art under A.Y.Jackson and Edwin Holgate. And from 1955 until 1965 he taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montreal.
This is a signed oil on canvas painting adhered to a board, measuring 17 x 11 1/4 inches in a 21 x 15 inch gold frame. William Preston Phelps was a plein air painter, known as the "Painter of Monadnock." He spent most of his life in Dublin and Chesham, NH, and he painted many landscapes of farms, fields, and forests, on and around Mount Monadnock. In 1876, he traveled to Europe and began studying at the Royal Academy of Art in Munich. He later moved to New York and then back to Europe with his friend William Meritt Chase.
This is an original oil on canvas painting by American artist James Gale Tyler (1855-1931) Tyler is the well known marine painter of the age of sail. The title of this piece which appears hand written on the back is: "Clipper nearing Port", this painting was done circa 1900. It has a canvas size of 24X20 inches and is in a heavy modern hand carved frame. The overall frame size is: 32X28 inches. The painting is clearly signed lower left. The painting is in good shape, no tears or inpainting, not relined it could use a very light cleaning but it is quite presentable as it now appears. Ready to hang on your wall.

Oil on panel, 9 x 11 inches, 1874, signed and dated lower right, in a period gilt frame. This is a wonderful tonalist view of a horse drawn hay wagon bound for home in the bleak cold of winter. This painting is by well known Canadian painter Francois B. De Blois. His formal art education includes studies in Europe under Charles-François Daubigny, probably in Paris or Auvers sur Oise a suburb to the north of Paris; and under Vincenzo Marinelli in Naples, Italy. De Blois’s paintings were exhibited in the Paris Salon in 1878; and in the United States with the Boston Athenaeum 1867 – 1873, the Brooklyn Art Association in 1874, the Boston Art Club 1875 – 1882, and the National Academy of Design 1880 – 1882. More recently, a De Blois painting was included in the 2008 exhibition titled “The Grand Tour Art and Travel, 1740 – 1914” at the Indiana University Art Museum.

The sitter is identified in a copy of a letter dated August 3, 1905, from Seth Mendell to William C. Davenport, President of The Machinists' Bank, Taunton, Massachusetts, in an envelope affixed to the back of the painting. Provenance: Estate of N. David Scotti, Providence, Rhode Island.

This is a fine original oil on canvas painting by American artist Charles Paul Gruppe (1860-1940) This study of a Farmwife at work was created circa 1880 prior to his moving to the USA in 1914. It is signed "Gruppe" lower right corner. The canvas measures 10X14 inches and came to us in what appears to be the original frame with the gallery label on the back: "Goupils" This well known New York painting dealer opened his gallery in 1848 and was later bought out by Knoedler. This was one of the earliest galleries in the USA to promote American as well as european paintings. The over all frame size measrues 18 1/2X22 1/2 inches. The painting came to us under glass which weve since removed. The painting is in extremely fine condition, no repairs,tears or staining. The frame has a few minor losses and scrapes, over all the painting is quite presentable just as it now appears.
This is an original oil on canvas painting by Boston artist A.C. Goodwin. The title of this work appeared on the stretcher as Autumn Landscape, circa 1925. The painting measures 25X29 inches. Signed
"A.C. Goodwin" lower left, This painting is framed in a modern gold frame. "Goodwin was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and was raised in Chelsea Massachusetts. He did not begin painting until the age of thirty and became a self-taught Impressionist and also a follower of the Ashcan School led by Robert Henri. After painting in Boston in both oil and pastel for a twenty-year period, Goodwin gained the recognition of famous art figures including John Singer Sargent, Mrs. Jack Gardner, and John T. Spaulding. Childe Hassam was quoted as describing Goodwin as "the greatest painter in Boston. In 1921, he left Boston for New York City and had a studio on Washington Square where he "developed a reputation as one of the few American Impressionists to prefer urban subjects" (Spanierman) including bridges, parks and avenues. He and his wife then lived in Chatham, New York where he painted many landscapes. In 1929, he returned to Boston and resumed his Bohemian lifestyle. "
This is an original pencil signed lithograph by American artist Robert Riggs. The title of this work is: "The Third Round", it was created and printed in 1932, one of a series of Boxing images that Riggs is best known for. The size of this image is impressive. The image measures 14 3/8X19 3/8 inches. Very fine condition, framed, archival materials. "Robert Riggs's dream at age eleven was to join the traveling carnival troupes that he saw in Decatur and picture in a hundred or so drawings that reveal his precocious talent. After studies at the Art Students League in New York from 1915-1917, he worked as an illustrator for the Philadelphia advertising agency N.W. Ayer and Son. In 1918 he spent time in Paris, where he took courses at the Academie Julian. He produced his first lithograph in 1932, on themes from the popular world of boxing "
This is an original oil on canvas painting of a Young Woman picking Flowers. The painting is signed lower right, it reads "Hildebrandt", the first initials are a bit rubbed and so hard to read. We are attributing this work to Howard Hildebrandt the American artist who was known to paint similar works. The painting measures 30X25 inches and comes in a victorian period picture frame. There are a few spots of touch up mostly at the bottom of her dress and the upper edge of the sky. The painting could use a light cleaning but is very presentable just as it now appears.
This is an original etching by American artist James Abbott McNeil Whistler. The title of this image is "Soupe A Trois Sous", It was created and printed in 1859 and according to the Glascow catalog this image was never published. The etching measures 5 7/8X8 7/8 inches, printed on a thin Japan laid paper, very fine condition, nice use of plate tone in the foreground. Soupe à trois sous ' is French for 'Soup for three sous', which was very cheap soup, and implies that the restaurant was a very basic café/bar. Whistler's first title, 'Café des Pieds Monilles' implies a particular café. 'Café des Pieds Monilles' is almost certainly a garbled reference to the Parisian Café des Pieds-Humides ('Café of the Wet Feet'). However, this title seems to have been immediately rejected in favour of the more familiar ' Soupe à trois sous '.(glascow)
This is an impressionistic original color etching and aquatint by French master of the Belle Epoch, Manuel Robbe (French 1872-1936) The title of this work is:
"Le Bouquet de Violettes", it was created and printed in 1903 in the first edition of only 65 signed proofs. A larger edition was published after the signature was added to the plate. This etching is hand signed in pencil lower right. The image measures 17 1/2X11 3/4 inches. A fine impression, previously sold by Merrill Chase galleries, it appears in the Chase catalog as image number 105. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris.
With his hand application of color no two images look exactly the same, a very painterly technique.
